Nice layout! Can consider sending it for ADA International Aquatic Plants Layout Contest 2006 after the plants had grown in. Remove the equipment and take some good shots. Send it to me, I can help you to do the submission.

Others bros interested in the contest are also welcome.

Hi Nice tank and nice attempt, brave one too, not many serious hobbyist will even attempt doing a 3 sided tank even after many years; the reason being a one sided tank is hard enough for most.

If you can take critic then pls read on (hopefully it can make even better at this hobby)
because it is your tank (you did it) and it is in a public area (your hall)
    1. pls put in some shrimps and/or otos to keep the tank clean once it is establish, this tank needs tons of maintenace, you can save some time studying and let the otos and shrimps to help clean the algea on the glass and clean the gravels
    2. its a public tank, you must inform the public -
put up a good sign board that says your name (its your effort),
name of plants, fishes, type of set up & its equipment,
its in a school compound, pls educate the many ignorant guys and girls how tough this hobby is.
also put in "pls do not knock on glass"
and the name or theme of the tank set up, suggestion "genesis"??? since your first
    3. try to arrange to have the lights around the tank dim, especially at night,, planted tank is best view at dark surrounding.
    4. good attemp to hide the equipment with tall plants, its a public tank, thus YOU NEED TO HIDE EQUIPMENT - THIS IS NOT YOUR BED ROOM TANK!
    5. i will give you A for effort but F for aquascaping, why F? if its your home tank, you can watch it grow, its a public tank, 9 out of 10 ppl do not have the patient and understand our hobby and the word patience, you get tons of critiscim at the begining, and you won't survive until the tank matures, thats why you don't see master amano do up a tank and tell you "wait for it to mature hor"
    6. why F, to me a 3 sided and above (4 side also) tank is reseve for the grand master in this game, once you do a 3 sided, your tank immediately tell us how skill you are. My standard very high, so don't be discourage from the following words; your are just throwing plants, stone and fishes into a tank.

why? a tank tells you its ability, a master will exploit a tank to its full potential - a simple example from a grand master 3 sided tank is as follows, he will see how the tank is place, which side will a visitor first see a tank, side A, B then C

the master will compose a simple side A B C plan in his head and then merge them together, then he starts to work, when he finish, a visitor will first be capture and intrigue by side A (mostly done by a tank scape with a loud, unsual or unique focal point), then the visitor is drawn to look closer, and as he walks around the tank he discover side B, a discover that side A and B is complete diff but in the same tank, he cannot wait to walk to side C and it is amazed by it because side C which is behind side A shows a completely diff scape, he will then go back and forth side A & C to see how this is done.

lost? if you are, hopefully one day you will see such a tank and understand what i mean.

Plants are simple.put them in a pot and they grow.. put them in a dark hole and they die.

    Am I lost?

Still the same thing, sit back and enjoy the tank while it grows.

    hi

initially, it was not my intention to make a 3 sided tank...but my hall manager had already purchased that tank and placed it outside the office in an open area... i do recognise the great difficulty of scaping for 3 sided tank.......

if this was my tank, i would have got a 6*2*2, not a 4*2*2.5......

there are 6 ottos in the tank, as well as 100 malayan shrimps....

when i move out of campus, i wil buy a bigger tank, maybe a 4*2*2 and put it against a wall, and aquascaping should be easier than 3 sided...

    hi rama

i dun mind you coming down to NUS, Eusoff Hall to pay the tank a visit. I am free this Sunday or this monday.

I will let you know my constraint...mainly finance, lighting, temperature, and placement....

We see how we can try to re-arrange stuff around to make it a "low-maintenance" tank....

SMS or call me at 93375016 or email at [email protected] (for faster reply)

should you need more info abt the "Constraints", just let me know, i will be more happy to write you an email....

following some of the discussion, ranmasatome has offered to give me a helping hand with the scape.

I feel it is much better now, given the sloping scape of the tank.. comments are most welcomed...

however, reminder that this is not my personal tank, and there are a lot of financial constraints

they are not very good pictures, taken during day time with a lot of glare on the tank... i will wait till tonite to take some more shots..

following some bad remarks from the master of EH, i decided to step down and no longer maintain the tank...

i am very sad now, but still think that this was the right decision to take. me and ranma have spent hours to rescape the tank, and the only feedback (which is negative ) was that,,,, why dun u put more plants, why are there so many snails, why is the left side so blank... why did u move the things again, are u not disturbing the fishes, are u not disturbing the shrimps...

well i got fedup, and decided not to persist in maintaining the tank... anyway they refuse me my T5, (and they have the guts to ask for more plants...grow them with what.....maybe with moonlight)...

I got damn pissed and wrong a lengthy email to the master , outlining in details the reason why i will no longer care for the tank.....

I wish to get ur feedback on the scaping we did, coz i believe it was great, and did not disturb the 'pregnant' shrimps too much.. what do you think..

now i can focus on my 2 feet and 1.5 feet. but i still remain deeply saddened

    regards
    Christophe

    Hi Christophe,

I must say I like the aquascape and would like to have a similar setup at home, the effort that you have put in has paid off.

The forum provides good feedback, however one needs to be selective in interpreting the comments as the writers comments come from many perspectives that need to be consolidated into what you want to do. Indeed one of the joys in being the artist is that it your piece of work not someone else’s and therefore a statement of individuality.

I like what you have done.

Great job done, Christophe and Justin.

    Cheer up Christophe.
I have been following this thread and so far, what I see when I was reading your thread is your committment and sincerity in making the best of this tank.

I can only say that whoever passed those negative remarks on your continuous effort to make this tank a better one lacked the opportunity to understand this hobby like we do.

May we invite that 'master' to have a few easy reads on a few good articles on why certain adjustments are good before the plants set in and the basics around a planted tank? Some attractive pictorial books on planted tanks over a coffee session sounds good? Or better, a link to AQ's pool of resources.

I guess if this 'master' understands the hobby better, the whole tank maintanence job in the long run would be a more enjoyable one for both the committee and the aquascaper . If it can happen to you, the next kind soul who volunteers to take over your job is most like to face the same issue.

(My parents too talk like they're the experts when they see me repositioning and nag when I was trimming off 'good growth' plants around the tank after 2 years.)

Anyways, I hope things work out merrily at your end
    Great Job!

Dewd.. dont be too pissed about it.. when i saw that the tank was a VOICE project i kinda understood that they probably thought it was a good idea to put a tank in the main hall.. and yes it indeed is nice.. but i also had a 2nd foreshadowing thought from what you've told me that they probably do not know what they were getting into. Its a typical local (although not generalising here) mentatily that they want to save money and they want their things to be really good.. which does not work. i Agree that both are valid points but perhaps with a better understanding they can judge for themselves where the line is between saving money and silly decisions. I think you should put all that duckweed back...hahahahahaha..Did i see the hall master when i was there?? if so, wonder why he didn't bring up his opinions to me when i was there..

No u did not see him.......oh by the way, he told me why i remove the duckweed...he seems to like it a lot ....when i said i left some, he was happy........... wthell..

if u had seen him, you would have left without completing the work..this guy can speak crap for hours..non stop..

yeps, it was a VOICE thing...i guess they did not know that the tank need to be maintained so much.....also, when i told them that i have to make weekly water change etc etc...they told me to call the supplier.(which i did not, i ask them to call themselves) coz they said supplier told them this kind of tank need only fill the spare tank...and it's okay for one year without water change....etc etc...... so much bullshit....

latest news..the master has asked for a meeting with me to discuss my resignation, he was shocked i guess...coz to me, he can talk crap and usually people abide....but i am not like those who will suffer in the dark...this is not my tank, i volunteered to help EH ...but i am surely not the one who will bear all his f..king complaints for sure...

the person u talked to is the manager, quite a nice guy that does not know much abt anything, so he listen to people....and i guess his decision not to put the T5 was that he does not want to go through the trouble of arguing with master why we need the T5

Like most people in a position of authority, he seems to have forgotten authority does not grant intelligence...

I'd agree with cs_sg on this one, sit down and educate him as an equal rather than a subordinate. Urgh, this guy sounds like my old boss... And remember, as with most singaporeans colourful diagrams and lots of pretty pictures will help him stay focused Heck, get a cute girl to explain it for you.

    Disclaimer:
I was being VERY sarcastic. Though it is my opinion that a majority of our countrymen are overly concerned with the material and superficial instead of the more important ecological and spiritual.

From my understanding tat Hall Masters in NUS is very "big"... But the person who grants you the money is the JCRC right?

Why don't you talk to the JCRC instead? As much as the NUS JCRC was controlled by the NUSSU, it is possible to gather some money for the T5... I remember someone in Raffles Hall is maintaining a tank too... Talk to him? Think was Taz_boy or someone... Can't remember...

Don't be sadden by them... Not money people understand what this hobby is all about...

You and Justin have done a very brillant job at making the tank look brillant from all 3 sides!

The raffles hall tank seems to be completely donation based. They've got a blog somewhere...

Aqua... rest assured.. i wouldn't have left.. i'm not part of the hall..so he cant press his authority on me.. i would have talked to him as an equal.. and if he doesn't like it then, at least its a lesson in humility..haha.. some people dont know what that word means.
