    Resun

Resun is made in china. for the price i guess it will be cheaper but no garantee cause some product they sell even expensive in local market.

Get the model CL650 which can support fot 4ft tank and above if really cheap.

    CL450-SGD$380
    CL650-SGD$480++

if you can get lower much more than the price above than let me know i also want to get one CL-650

I agree that the price of chillers have dropped quite drastically from 3 years ago. What a whole of difference.

In fact, fish keeping in general seems to be getting more affordable. I remember a basic CO2 set costing hundreds of dollars pH controllers costing the same. Now, most of these items are available for a fraction of what they used to cost, albeit from China rather than Germany.

So it can only mean good news for the hobbyist. Lower cost of entry and a better set up.

    Cheers,
I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?

it depends on what is the temp u wanna chill ur tank until. I would get the next level of chiller even after calculating that the, for instance, CL650, might be able to sustain it. But i do not wanna push it to its limits and risk failure. A bigger unit will be able to chill the tank faster and giving it time to rest before the thermostat kicks in again.

hmm i think you can get the cheapest for CL-650 at $399 or less now. I don't know where to get cos I bought 2nd CL-650 (very new) and used for half yrs .. so far so good. take 10 mins to chill from 26-24 and kick in after 50 mins. Now raining season and my chiller kick in once in 2 hrs during light on and 3-4 hrs during light off.

Just a common problem i guess for CL-650 is the "pop" sound when is stop chilling, sometime have sometime don't have, might be the sudden stop of the fan or etc....

If you have budget think get Teco RA240, it use less power than CL-650 and quiet too...

I am interested to find out how big the dent is the chiller making on your electricity bill? Realised that my lights are already beginning to make some dent and am worried about getting a chiller...

i run the air-con at LEAST about 12hrs everyday and just put fan on tank. cost comes up to be around teh same for 1 chiller.. but i cool multiple tanks this way (as opposed to only 1 chiller per tank) and i enjoy the cool environment as well as my family. 2 birds with one stone if you ask me. tank temps are 22, 24 and 26

    Hi Justikanz

My bill different b4 and after I have tank and chiller is about $30-40.

    Total light is about 326W (3 tanks) with 2 AC fan + 1 CL-650
Light on period 8 hrs per day.
    Tank with Chiller: 4 X 1.5(W) X 2(H), temp set at 24-26

    (HOT summer season)
Chiller kick in time during light on: about every 50 mins and chill 10 mins
Chiller kick in time during light off: about every 2 hrs and chiller 10 mins

    (Raining season at year end)
Chiller kick in time during light on: about every 1.5hrs and chill 10 mins
Chiller kick in time during light off: about every 3 hrs and chiller 10 mins, if whole day raining than about every 6 hrs once.

I put the tank in my sitting room and air ventilation quite good....

    For ranmasatome...
I've think of that b4 but the tank temp won't be stable in 24 hrs...when air con off than the temp got increase slowly?? your fish feel stress becos of unstable temp?

If you idea work well I think it really benefit human and plants and fish .. hehe

It's a good solution if hobbist have multiple tank like you. How much extra do you pay for running the aircon 12 hrs daily ?

I got a small tank about 25 litre. Using a Resun CL300. I think my electricity bill increase by S$15-20 a month. which is also quite consistent with another friend 2ft tank running CL280.

    Lighting for mine is 55w + 24W = 79W

    Chillers run for 24hrs, right?

I keep my room air-conditioned when I am at home but that also means in the day time, when the tank lights are on, the water temperature can be as much as 10C-15C more than at night... But so far the critters are ok... On the whole, agree that in a room with multiple tanks, it would be better with aircon but for a single tank (esp a big one) in the living room, air-conditioning seems not as good an idea liao...

Anyway, thanks for the info on the electricity bills... If I get a chiller, think my household electricity bill will be hitting S$300 soon! PUB sure loves us...

    Justikanz,

The chiller only kick in when water temperature flowing through the chiller is higher than what you have set. For example, you set 25 degree. The water flowing through the chiller is 27 degree. The chiller will kick in and cool the water till 25 degree and stop.

When the water temperature slowly raises to say 26 degree it will kick in again. The same process on and on.

    Ok. Thanks.

Oh, when it kicks in, it is noisy? Also, read that there is a need to send the hot air away to have the chiller work effeciently...

To me not really noisy. Heard previously older Resun is noisy. Both my CL300 and my friend's CL280 is not noisy.

Well the hot air output is from the back of the chiller (like the fridge at your home). Just don't place it back to back against the wall is fine. Of course if there are good air circulation in those areas it would be better. If you place inside cabinet think you will need some fans to improve circulation inside your cabinet because it's stale air inside and it will be warm.

get CL-450, my friend set it at 24C and it chill about 10 mins only and kick in again after 1-2 hrs.
