Well, it depends on what specimen you are looking for.Originally Posted by outspoken
I can advise provided I've seen it there..
Japan is a good place to get top and rarer quality apistos but at premium prices.
i agree with yorky, the apisto found in Japan is really 2 thumbs up but it's all paid with a premium. They do travel well so far i've not got any dead upon arrival (Choi)
Cheers!

Please check AVA regulations on bringing back fishes from overseas.
The good thing is that apistos can be packed in small packets individually.. so either check-in or hand-carry should be ok.
If you want good quality rarer species, be prepared to fork out S$200 to $500 a pair.

bros, just check with my colleague, she's going to tokyo as the last destination..is that just the only place that they have or there are others.Btw do u guys think the apisto is more or less the same as the pics in RVA? as i need some photos as reference for my firiend to look for it.
Any info will be nice.
Outspoken,
There are many others all over Japan.
If it had been 3 years ago, you would have been spoilt for choice.
I believe An Aquarium is the best place in Tokyo for Apistos now. The stocks are from the same supplier as RVA but not as much. So using English names is ok..
The An Aquarium guy is ok with English Apistos names. What are you looking for? I might be able to advise you whether they have what you want.
RVA website has prices for their apistos. By the way, RVA's prices are per piece not pair. An Aquarium's prices are slightly cheaper.

RVA has them.
http://www.rva.ne.jp/webshop/1-1fish.htm
Go to this link, and at the box at the top, 3 row left most you look for this
アピストグラマ and click on it.
Will bring you to all the currently available apistos and their prices.
However bear in mind that RVA is not in Tokyo.
They mostly sell via online delivery.
I've seen some of these fishes and I think RVA has them.
Bit - Yen 16000 to 24000 a pair
sp Rotkeil/Blutkeil - Yen18000 to 40000 a pair
Gibbiceps - Yen 9000 plus a pair
Guttata - Yen 12000 plus a pair
Baenschi - approx Yen10000 a pair (I thought this is available in Singapore?)
unless you are looking for German ones..

YS,
Price listed in RVA is for a piece or a pair?
Per Piece.
I wished it was per pair too!

Bro Yorky, what about the place that you said in tokyo?..what species/variety do they have?
How come RVA Inca look so different from the usual one

Bro,what about these species?..
All Photos are from www.rva.ne.jp
Do u think these will be available at tokyo? Anyway from your experience, do the shop do the packing for long distance travelling or we have to do it ourselves? Any extra cost if they do it?
Anyway can share your experience in bring in these fellows from Japan?

You can request them to do pack it at no extra charge.
All these fishes are available occassionally.
So, good luck on your decision and hope it is available when your colleague is there!

Thanks for all the info.

if the fishes are pack in plastic bags, just remember to release some O2 before plane take-off.
meaning not to have a super tight bag cos air expands when plane is at a higher altitude.
have fun and good luck !
Didn't think of that. That's a good tip from someone in the industryOriginally Posted by mervin
