    Hi guys,

Need your opinion on this fish here....i kinda like the coloration and its longish body....any folks here have any experience with them, in keeping or spawning? i'm thinking of keeping them in a tank of their own, maybe a pair?

I am keeping these guys... 2 males, 4 females.

Currently raising a batch of fries. Another pair is in the mood of spawning anytime now.

In my experience, not a difficult sp to keep. Undemanding lot. My first batch of fries were spawned in an unfiltered 12x8 inch tank

Very pretty when they are in spawning dress....

they are about the esaiest to keep and spawn !

as usual, lots of hiding space, some plants(moss for spawnin) and keep the pH anywhere from 5-6.5 and they will spawn like rabbits !

have fun and good luck !

    here are two old pixs.

Yup,got to agree..very nice species and quite easy to breed them.breed them once but due to my inexperience, went to feed them frequently,my male is like super huge and start killing one female and lost a lot of the fries.now left with only 2 fries.

Btw anyone got the male for sale?..mine is too aggresive cos its huge..look at the pic below.

The serious aquascapers will probably squirm at the idea, but some of the prettiest dwarf cichlids are in algae infested tanks and they have successful spawns!!

    Cheers,
I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?

For me, the true value of each fish is in the enjoyment you get out of it.

And for dwarf cichlids, the prices varies due to the color, body form and the finnage. Therefore, there is no good reference price in my opinion. I have seen this fish for as much as S$240 a pair and as little as S$10 each.

    Cheers,

For easier species you can always try mac, hongloi, wilhelmi, tri, caca etc,

For those more difficult ones will be diplo, mendezi, eli, paucisquamis, some other spp.

What i know is that so far, diplo and paucisquamis are the ones that have not been succussful over here. for the region it'll be paucisquamis due to their behaviour of killing their mate before spawning.

It was in one of the studies mentioning that apisto males will rule the entire bottom of a 200 x 80 cm perimeter. I guess some of us will know what apisto can do when they're in breeding mood. So please refrain from adding more pairs in the tank if you wish to breed them.
    Cheers!
