it is ok to inject co2 24/7. just make sure that the critters in your tank can withstand the higher co2 during light off. however, you will not be able to maximize the co2 concentration during photoperiod.

how long your co2 tank can last you depends on your co2 bubble size.

It's redundant to inject CO2 when the lights are off... you waste CO2, you run the risk of CO2 poisoning, and your cylinder finishes twice as faster.

    may not be the case.
with co2 being injected during the photoperiod only, you usually have a much higher co2 injection rate.

sorry to revive this old thread, *dont waste bandwidth to open new thread*

i'm going to on my CO2 for 24/7 as i do not have a solenoid.

my photoperiod is as follows: 8pm - 6am (using tank lights as night lights controlled by timer). i go to work at around 8am, and at times i go out late i can only make it back around 10-11pm. so now if that's the case i'd be leaving the lights on without CO2 for 2-3hrs.

after calculating my dKH vs. pH, my CO2 is at 30.1ppm or less. (without fauna). will be startin to add 100harlequins and some other critters this weekend. will this settings cause a great probability of CO2 poisoning? how about i get a air pump with timer and on it during the dark cycle? will it work?

    really appreciate an advice thks!

May i know your tank size? Having a air pump will bring more O2 into the water column. It might be feasible.

To save yourself from all the trouble, installing a solenoid will lessen your burden.

    Cheers!

    I'm also a student

Save your Red Packets, i'm sure it'll get you a fairly good solenoid that will last quite a while.

    Cheers!

I gave up on solenoid.... My JBJ solenoid always get spoilt after 1 yr (once the warranty is over). Just leaving at the small hole on the knob.

So for those spoilts, I replace them with manual regulator, which is a real pain to open/close daily. So I let it run 24/7. While Co2 is wasted, well the manual regulator is dirt cheap (to offset the difference in solenoid vs manual regulator vs extra Co2 top up needed), plus I always get enough Co2 in my tank, and on some other levels, my pH is kept low via Co2 injection (not sure if good/bad), but my fishes are not dying (of course a few mosquitos boraras in a 1.5 feet tank).

    Cheers, Christophe

Here's another more recent and relevant thread. I have given comments in there: CO2 on 24/7?
