Recently there's an increasing appearance of apistos in local lfs.....some claim the apistos are wild, F1 bred, from farms and so on...... sometimes i wonder whether wat the lfs claim is true or not, when they say its wild, etc.....and price also raises some tots too....

As for quality, cant really say much as it varies a lot from the diff sources......
wonder if we're still are to get good quality wild or even F1 bred apistos......

    Hi Caca,
Somehow whenever I address you, I feel like I am talking to an apisto.. .. Don't mind me kidding around abit.

Actually don't quite get your point.
    Are you saying that
    1. Not sure if LFS are truthful in what they claiming?
    2. We don't seem to get good quality wild or F1 apistos locally?

    haha...its ok...

yea, i'm smtimes not sure whether the lfs is true in wat they claim and also we seldom see lfs bringing good quality wild or F1 here.....

most lfs are taking from farms tat mass produce apistos like luohan, causing a huge drop in quality......and also ppl tend to go straight for the cheap cheap apistos rather den e good quality but a little more exp apistos.....

Unless there is a sustainable market for high quality expensive apistos, no lfs will be willing to take the risk to bring these in.

In any case, it is a good sign that apisto stock are appearing in local scene, at least this will raise the interest in apisto-keeping.

We hope to be able to share more with the hobbyists so that they can make more careful buying decisions.
There will be a place for cheap entry level apistos.
Hobbyists will not be willing to take risks buying expensive apistos when they are not confident of keeping them alive.
And we hope through the forum, we can encourage more hobbyists into keeping the rarer ones hence creating a demand for it locally.
What we also hope to achieve is foster the Dwarf Cichlid community to appreciate original strains and not just settle on 'too-much-inbreeding' strains.
Just as an example that I experienced in Japan.
One shop was selling wild Taeniacara Candidi from different localities.
The best looking ones were from Santarem but were left with only males.
Although he had females from other locality, he was not willing to sell it as a pair(and fetch a higher price).
Such is the mentality and I appreciate their approach to Apisto appreciation.

    So now it's all a question of strain preservation(quality) over inbred-mass production(quantity)?

But it seems a little strange that inbreeding could/would be a problem. Is it that hard to rotate pairs and not put spawns of similar parenting together?
