How old is he?
Could it be something in the water?
What's his diet like?
Hi
Got a question... A betta in my office seems to have his anal fin getting shorter and it also seems to be a little 'split'... He is staying alone in a small planted tank and the only other fauna are snails and maybe some fat tubifex he did not eat...
Anyone has any idea what happened to his fin?![]()

Could be fin rot. I've had it with some of my betta. Add some salt and make sure the water is clean.
Cheers,
I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?
I remember reading somewhere that it got something to do with the water conditions!
If I remember correctly, think its nitrate!
The tank has heavy algae growth and has a lot of terrestrial plants growing from it.
He is about 2-3 years old liao... He is being fed the same food as his friend in another tank nearby... Some flakes for Bettas from Tetra.
Colleague changes water rather regularly too...
Add salt ah?... Maybe if the condition worsens first... A little difficult as there are plants drinking from the tank... Anyway, table salt can liao? Or need marine salt?![]()

Aquarium salt... Not marine salt, not table salt... Those that you can buy for less than 2 bucks from C328...
Aquarium salt is different in that there is iodine or silicates... And also dun have one chemical... Can't remember the name...
Can we eat the aquarium salt?![]()

Yes, join me in guinnea pig-ed-ness!
It's fin rot. Add Sera baktopour or Melafix with salt and some ketapang extract. It should stop. If it's too serious, you may cut off the affected area and let it grow back.
Bettamin is not bettas favourite dried food. Not all will take it. Live food like bloodworm or tubifex are still their favourite. If you have problem feeding them with live food try to change to other dried food such as freeze dried bloodworm or pallets like Sayuri or Momizi.
Have to find a way to dispose of the aquarium salt after the betta is cured...Afterall, salt cannot be kept long without them turning into salt solution...
cwtan12, there is a limit as to what we can feed the bettas... They eat very little and the bettamin is still like half full... No point buying new food... And somemore I am not taking of them now...

As for bettamin, I had around 50 bottles of them from my betta competition hampers. I cant even get those 2 mths old (greediest) to eat. So i passed almost all to my friends who keep guppies.
From the name I'd assume they're betta vitamins?
No, the 'min' is from Tetra's product, Tetramin... I THINK it means 'flakes'... Need someone who knows German to confirm... There's also tabimin, where the flakes were made into tablet form...![]()
