    Hi guys,

Photo by Jan Fredsholt from www.danskcichlideselskab.dk

Has anyone kept these before? How are they compared to Altum Angels? Comments or feedback please.

Was at Gan's Fish Farm and saw some of these from their recent shipment and wondered if they are identified correctly. They have a distinctively longer snout compared to the other angels. Was told that it's pretty hard to get these locally and this was the first shipment in a long time.

Incidentally, those interested please call as ask Gan's before heading down. They are still in quarantine and have limited pieces. No point going all the way there and it's sold out or not ready.

    Cheers,

P.S. For dwarf cichlid lovers, there are 2 tanks of checkerboard cichlid left.
I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?

    benny,

I've always thought this fish to be P. dummerilii with it's elongated body lines. We had some angels that come in about 8 years ago that were called P. leopoldi, which had the usual body shape. The thing that made them different from scallare was a black tear shaped mark of the dorsal.

If these were the true P. leopoldi, they were very agressive with each other, even pairs. I managed to breed them but you could not keep the pair together, they tear each other to pieces. I've got some old pics somewhere and I'll try to scan them in when i find them. I've kept the ones in your pic and found them to be good tank mates as long as the other fish were of a reasonable size.

    Rgds,

    Thanks mick!

Hmm... looks like most angels are fairly aggressive. Then again, the are cichlids afterall. Perhaps I should give them a miss, despite their rarity.

    Cheers,

p.s. Is that anything that you haven't bred at all!?

Have always thought that P. dumerlii was synonymous with P. leopoldi.

    Hi benny and all,

These are the P. leopoldi I had with some youngsters. Sorry about the pix, it was taken with an old camera that I had years ago.

Also I've just remembered something else about them in the other angel species we have. In between the 2 dorsal stripes there is a faint stripe, with the P. leopoldi there is no stripe.

Just sharing a picture of the angels that I bought from Gan's Fish farm when this post started. Find them to be rather peaceful and have never seen them attempting to take a bite out of the smaller fishes around.

Anyone has any idea if these angels can be kept with altums?
