I suppose it's true as in that if you are not into fishkeeping, then why even bother with filters and skimmers.

I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?
sorry, sounds a bit misleading, but what they are saying is to just keep corals and inverts for a marine tank, without the fishes.

corals like sps need much better water parameters than other corals so a protein skimmer would be most beneficial.
if u hv a pico/nano sized tank keeping only softies n maybe some lps, then with weekly waterchanges, protein skimmer n canister filter(for bio filtration) can be skipped.
