    Hi,
I plan to setup this 1.5ft tank as a LOW MAINTENANCE planted tank. This will have No CO2, Low bio-load and low light (11W).

I have already got the Dolphin (500L/Hr) filter running for about 1 week already and the tank is filled with fine sand. Can anyone tell me what plants can I put in? I plan to go to Pasir Ris plant farm this weekend to buy them.

    Thanks.

I see a single peice of driftwood covered with mosses, Anubias barteri var Nana around the base, cryptocorynes here and there and Vallisneria nana en masse at the back. White sand foreground.

Fish will be boraras briggitae/merah/urophlatamoides(spelling error), 3 Yamato shrimp.

Actually most of the common plants around will do. I'm more concerned about the temperature.
I would go for a lawn of HC if you are placing it in an air-conditioned room.

I was thinking that too, but instead of just a lawn. Throw in a nice rockscape and undulate the gravel. Give it that New Zealand look.

    Hello,
We just went to Pasir Ris plant farm and got Long Hairglass, Crypt, and small swords. It was backbreaking work.

I still have more work to do next week! Any comments?

I am thinking of puting some pebbles or rocks, any suggestions?

What's the emersed plant at the right?

There's a lack of a hardscape, so nothing much can be said now.

sand ... wah perfect for cories

all in all, kinda too neat IMO ... dun plant them in straight rows ... try to stagger the plants and make them look more natural

    Thanks for all your comments.
Planting them in orderly and straight is a method that I used to ensure space usage. However, after sometime, the plants will spread, right?
I will then have a 'natural' look?

I am thinking of some rocks or pebbles on the left. I don't think that I can put plants here due to the flow from the filter. In fact, I had to fill the tank to about 1" from the rim to reduce the flow. Previously, when the water level was lower, the sand got blown away!

    Hi All,
This is an update on my 1.5ft so far.
    1. The long hairgrass did not live long, the stocks were yellowing, I had to remove them.
    2. Replaced the back with corkscrew vals, from Pasir Ris plant farm.
    3. Added 2 mini Nana plant. Planted the roots directed into the sand.
    4. Bought 3 angel fishes...these cost $9.5 for 3, was told that this is a special species.
    5. Bought 2 yamoto shrimps, 1 died on the next day.

    Comments?

hmmm..felt that your light may be abit low or was it the pics. hair grass cant tarhan low light..similarly for the corkscrew vals..

I dont advise planting the nana directing into substrate try tying onto rocks or wood. Btw, rocks as hardscape will fit well into ur tank

hmm..something i'm curious about, will the angel fish eat the yamato or not? coz heard that they are kinda aggressive?

I like it, it has a sense of depth imho. The only bummer is the sand... looks weird =/

The sand looks really... beachy... dark grey would look good in that setting...

    Hi,
    Thanks for all your comments!

The yamoto is slightly more than 1" long, the Angel is about 2", not very big. Currently, they are not aggressive, in fact, they are being chased by the 2 platies!

The light is 11W, I read that the corkscrew vals will take low-med light. So far so good. The bigger Nana on the left actually grew quite fast, despite that it was supposed to be a slow growing plant! I observed that the small leaflet grew over 2-3 days period with changes everyday!

I transferred some short hairgrass from my 4ft to here. Waiting to see what will happen.

There is no CO2 or any base fertilizer in the tank.

I will see if a piece of rock or a small wood can be placed on the right front side of the tank.

    Thanks.

    MS
