its still alive in your tanks this one??
Hi guys,
What do you think the above might be? I know the fish has ragged tail and still in stress coloration. But the dorsal fin is really long/high! This is a wild caught specimen from Brazil. Further collection details not available. Shame.
Possibily Apistogramma pertensis?
Cheers,
I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?

Looks like A. pertensis from here, Benny. I've kept and bred these guys before.
Eric
Thanks Eric!
Here's an updated picture when the fish is slightly less stressed after introduction. Still have not complete the setup so they are very skittish.
Like I said, shame about the tail, but I'm sure that will grow out in due time. The damages on the others are far worse. What a bickering lot these fellas are.
Ranma, these are in my tank. Interested?

Hey Benny, nice fish you have there. It seems that you always have deal for good quality apisto![]()
Benny, the fish is ok quality for Ap cf. Pertensis.
But the photography is superb!
The last picture is exceptional.

shape = pertensis
colour = don't know but very nice !
So....you guys don't think it's Apistogramma pertensis?
Due to fins? A. pertensis seems to be very varied in terms of coloration.

Most likely Ap. cf Pertensis.. coz the caudal spot looks separate from the lateral line.. which is a Pertensis characteristics.
Haiz.. only male ah?? i need pair leh..
How about 2 males?Originally Posted by ranmasatome

Are they homosexual males willing to spawn?? or adopt eggs?
After one day in the tank....
I realised that the bars on the caudal fins looks black in color. However, when exposed to strong flash, it shows up as red, meaning that the base color of the black markings are actually red! Also, the greenish/yellowish metallic hue on the dorsal fin only shows up when you don't hit the flash directly at the fish, but at an angle.
Thought you guys might like to know this.

Benny thats very interesting i'm sure alot of us people will like to know how true and how intense the colouration of some japanese apisto. Do they look good only in photos or are they real but i believe any fish goes to you after their photos are taken, they' always turns out well! To me at lease ...
What if this fish is under super bright lighting will the colour change accordingly? I might try playing around with flash angle next time round.
Cheers!

Given the recent experiments with the lighting the subject, I would say that it's 90% true (except RVA). The strong lighting shows the color potential of the fish under strong lighting. I'm sure in a clear stream under sunlight during noon, the effect will be similar. However, our aquarium presentation pales in comparison to the actual lighting conditions. As such, the colors we see in the magazines always seems too good to be true.

What does (except RVA) means?Originally Posted by benny
BUt you have given an excellent analysis!
So, what if we use strong light for viewing as well?
Will we be able to view the colours?
