My school's garden pond was set up recently. Lately there is a huge green algae blooming. Any idea on how to limit the spread of algae? What critter can be used to control the algae?
There is no filter or uv steriliser of any sort, only a water pump to move the water. Full sunlight from late morning till evening.

If its a recently setup pond then this algae phase is quite normal. I too have a small pond with no filtration, just a pump for watyer circulation and lots of pond plants/weeds. Just leave it and it will clear up within a couple of weeks. It is a good idea to add some floating plants like Lotus or pond Lillies, these will provide some shade for the pond and fish.
Kindest regards

Some plants like water lilies, water lettuce and some unknow pond plants are already added. Unfortunately the algae is spreading rather fast, I could see clumps floating and some algae even growing on the pond's edges. Looks like hair or beard algae. So far the only fish residing in the pond is guppy. I'm thinking of introducing goldfish, can that helps?
Your pond is an open system, give it time to stabilise and it will be fine. Outdoor ponds are never 'crystal clear' and wikll always have some sort of algae. Yes the Goldfish will nibble at it but not enough to keep it spotless.
