    Hi,

I have a spare slightly bigger than 1 ft tank. Decided to try out a shrimp tank and intend to get some CRS. So people, tell me what do I need.

Budget $100 - 100+. The cheaper the better. Budget not including shrimp. Any advice?

Intend to put a drift wood that I have in the middle with fissidens/mini pelia tied on it.
Moss Floor. But cannot decide which kind of Moss is suitable.

    - Do I need gravel? If yes how much and which kind?
    - What kind of filter?
    - Light?
    - Fan?
    - CO2?

If you are staring a shrimp tank, obviously the following is favorable.

    01. Cool temperature (so a fan or chiller is good)
    02. Plants like moss (so substrate is not necessary, but decorative)
    03. Light for moss (which need not be too strong, clip on 1 ft FL/PL is fine)
    04. Good filtration (A small hang on filter like the Eheim Liberty 150 or Eden 501)
    05. CO2 is not necessary but will enhance plant growth (Don't poison your shrimps)

I think there are plenty of good examples in the forum. Just have a look around for inspiration.

    Cheers,
I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?

Instead of a moss floor, try a moss wall and keep the base of the tank relatively open so you can see your shrimp better? The kind of moss depends on your preference for "tidiness’" as Java moss grows well, but looks a bit untidy, generally easy to find on the forum. Christmas moss looks more structured and probably better to look at close up, but costs a bit more.

For shrimp, if this is the first time you have kept them, then don't go past Cherry shrimp, they reproduce easily, are hardier than CRS, that means you can make a mistake or two and they will not all die on you.

    However CRS look good!

I do agree that you can try to keep cheaper shrimps like cherry shrimps before you are experienced enough for CRS. CRS don't come cheap so without proper knowledge and skills, they might die on you soon enough.

Not something that you want to happen.

Since u have experience with cherry shrimps, can try out CRS now but just more take care on them since they are not as hardy as cherry shrimps.

    1. Xmas or Taiwan moss floor?
I think either one is nice.

    2. Fissiden or Mini Pelia on DW?
    Try Fissiden

    3. Erect or Weeping moss on rock?
Cannot comment since never use them before.

How u know they are pregnant? If u see cherry shrimps got yellow eggs under their tummy, should be pregnant. Once the eggs hatched, should be able to see tiny shrimplets (same as their parents but really small). They might also hid since they need to feel secure so may not see them until they are bigger. Might see them earlier if u do not have fishes in there.

Im gonna start my shrimp tank this wkend, need a few stuff and got a few questions.
First question, will mini pelia look good on those larva rock. Intend to cover the whole rock with it. Rock is slightly bigger the size of a fist. Will it able to grow?...how do i attach it to the rock tying with fish lines or thread? or use a net? Next i plan to have fissiden on a DW... simliar question as before on how to secure the fissiden?
Intend to get ADA soil for the gravel bed.

    Other specs:
    - Hang Over filter
    - DIY CO2 injection.
    - cooling fan

Anyone selling or giving away ADA soil, fissiden, mini pelia, xmas or taiwan moss and stringy moss?
