    I doubt Apistos cross.

3ft with hairgrass and rocks? You need a lot of hiding places then. I'd feel safer with a 3ft thickly planted.

For my 2.5ft tank, the moment i let in the caca pair to tank which contain tri, they start fighting, none of the party seem to back off & hide. ended up my caca got torn tail. so have to seperated caca to different tank. suggest to have more pair in the tank to divert attention of agressive 1

You are wrong with that mindset. Apisto are quite territorial fishes. Especially when they are in mating season. The only way i think you can have a few species of apisto is to create lots of hiding space.

    Totally agree with wackytpt.

Learned it the hard way when i "tested water" with my 3ft tank. Agassizii pair and yellow caca pair.

Believing that my densely planted and many driftwoods layout would provide enough hiding place. Agassizii male got torn tail, caca male died. Better to hold just a pair in a tank. Chances of the males meeting in a 3ft is still high. Can't imagine 2.5ft... Putting in more then a pair to divert attention is wrong, unless you dun mind seeing all your apistos with torn finnage and always hiding from the dominant male...

My experience: 3 ft planted tank with 4 species of apisto (at least 3 each) plus about 20 other fishes - have not seen damage or over agressiveness among the fishes, even when apisto spawning. Some fries even manage to grow up. Just occasionally some apisto MIA but can't confirm due to other apisto.

I'll still go with one pair of apisto in one tank.....even if they breed, they'll not hurt other apistos and the fries are safe from others too....if you have a realli big big and very dense tank, den go ahead and put more den 1 pair ba....they'll prob be happy....

Stick to our apisto golden rule if u want to see them beautiful n nice.
    One pair per tank.
Size does not matter; temperment does...

I have 4 apistos in my 3.5 tank.
1 aga pair, 1 male caca, 1 male steel blue.
together with a whole bunch of other fishes.

Left side is thickly planted, right side has a short, but thick lily patch.
    Middle consists of DW pieces.
The apistos seemed to have their specific territories.
the aga pair have the left side, caca the right side & poor steel blue, no choice the middle area (which is the most exposed).

4 seems to be the limit, had a female panduro, which sadly die, could have possibly got into a fight, as it mouth seemed to be quite torn up,before it died.

Giant lets hear some apisto spawning from you. I don't always encourage people putting more then 1 pair in the tank..

I had a six footer last time only one species.
    Cheers!

    benetay,

thanks for the pointers, would like to try that one apistos species in my tank, but don't like to 'dump' the other 2 apistos.
    how?

Anyways, very inspired by all the pics & experience sharing, very tempted to start another smaller tank to try out breeding, of course that's subjected to the wifey's approval.

    Understood about approving officer....

go slow on apisto, if you don't have the space than concentrate on one solid species so you'll admire it everytime, i rather have 1 x solid than 10 x normal..
    Cheers!

Yup. If space permits, try to get a few pairs of the same breeds to do some selective breeding. That my upcoming project if i am coming back.
