    Was sold as a Mendezi, what do you think? Misidentification?

    A.Miua. most likely can't be mendezi , it's too late to grow the lyretail now..

    Apart from the tail.. what other features we could look out for to differentiate between the two?

    the tail is a tell tale sign for the difference. it's very obvious once you look at the tail as mendezi don't really have round tail.



    a picture for compare.

    Lyretail, long ventral, more robust body, quite similar but one look we know that the Miua is different from Mendezi.

    It's already a very mature adult. Very fierce towards other apisto but very skittish upon seeing me.

    Kray if i'm not wrong, the marking on the caudal for mendezi is diffenert from miua...

    Mendezi from different locality do have such marking...

    vertical markings and horizonal markings. So its pretty difficult to tell with their marking.

    Bottomline, lyrate caudal tail is confirm Mendezi.
    Miua has round caudal tail, in this case, its a blue form Miua.
