    discus raised from juvenile.
It kinda like the environment. The conditions are good. No water change for more than half a year already. Just top up lost water. Temperature kept at 31C. Discus is very healthty, does not have any of the known "discus" diseases so far. Touch wood

The 'stripes' on the discus are the stress bars. The bars show when the fish is stressed. Like this case when it is being placed in too small a tank. Peter (hpeter), you really need to find a bigger tank for the discus.

So sorry guys, quite ignorance didn't read up much before buying and proper preparation. Bought it from C328 as a juvenile.

It looks alert, good appetite, enough shading from the lotus so guess the only stress factor is the tank size. Will create another much bigger tank with similar planted environment for it.

IMHO, always pity those Discus in bare display tanks, despite tip-top water conditions thru constant water changing, it's deprived of its natural biotope. Rather stressful if you were to ask me to stay in a house without a bed, tables/chairs, etc etc.

Sadly, Peter, the natural habitat of discus is also deviod of plants. There would only be sand and wood (roots). The only time they will see plants is when the river overflows and they manage to swim into the flooded forest...

Hi Peter, dun wait any longer. Migrate ur discuss and lotus to a bigger tank and convert this to another nano marine species tank.

    Cheers

stress bars for the lotus? nah, i dont think so bro.
It has started from a very small 3~4 leaves thingy and now it has got 2 "offsprings" and if space allows even more. A new leaf once every 2 days.

ya, saw the documentary on AnimalPlanet on this flooding thing.
But also read that they prefer low light, preferrably with big leaves on water surface?

That and your temperature is waaaay to high! 31 is warm even for humans. Rivers rarely get over 28.

Wrong, XnSdVd... Amazon river bank water temperatures can go as high as mid-high 30s... That's why discus are usually kept at high temperatures...

that is what I gathered about the habitat, that is why purposely install a heater to keep temp at 30~31 degC

ya, that could be a good idea, JC.

What is the best way to clean a FW tank before using for SW?
Previously for my office pico conversion, i use hydrogen peroxide to do the sterilization and removal of any algae residue.
