    Well, if you don't wash the shell.. you'll probably get the rotten egg smell, which will keep most things away from the tank... including you.

    Logically, it can't be unwashed, right? At least rinse it. I'm guessing egg shells got some other smell that keeps lizards away... if it's true.

    The egg shells are supposed to be washed before you put them near the aquarium.

    Just caught the lizard near my tank again! Have to get my hands on some egg shells.
