Would appreciate if anyone can help me ID this pleco. It has been quite aggressive in my tank since I had it about 2 months back.

    Hi dbcyeo,

    Welcome to Aquatic Quotient!!

That's not a Acanthicas adonis, which can grow up to 100 cm and is relatively aggressive.

From the looks of it, it can be either a Galaxy (Leproacanthicius sp. aff. galaxias L240) or Inspector (Hypancistrus inspector L201). Perhaps a close up picture of a closer crop will help.

Let's see what the others say..

Oh.... And the Dennerle Slate Grey gravel contrast with the color of the fish very well.

    Cheers,

On a separate note, shooting at an an ISO of 400 and an aperture of f/5.6, you can get actually go slower than 1/60 sec to get a better depth of field when you go nearer (provided you have enough support). Plecos in general are pretty still most of the time.
I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?

    Hi DBCyeo,
I believe it might be the L241, very similar to L240 but the spots resembles L241 more, don't think it's L201(inspector) because of the protruding pointy tail but I could be wrong, let's see what the others say.

Thanks for the reply guys. Have actually looked out for more info on both the L240 & L241. Any chance anyone has any first hand experience on whether this pleco is agressive or anything about it's habits.

Noticed that it hides alot and digs alot. Have seen it fighting with the 3 other plecos I have in the tank.

Thanks for the tips on the photography Benny. I didn't set the ISO, actually left it at auto. Unfortunately, this pleco does not stay still for long in the open. Usually hidden and moves really fast.

    Hi dbcyeo,
From some literature I dug up, L241 leporacanthicus sp is a carnivore, meat being the only food source. This could account for it's agressive behaviour. Cheers.

ive had the galaxias and grew him up to be an 8 inch fish,
his main diet was prawns and beef heart he loved them, then one day i had ordered a male apisto viejita he was full grown his females had been living happily with the galaxias so i added the viejita within 30secs of him being in there the galaxias had got him and was enjoying his first bit of live fish, the bugger.

hmmm.....mick is getting me worried about this pleco with his real life experience.

anyone keen to adopt this FOC? anyway, have mostly been feeding pellets in this tank, with live brine shrimp now and then on the weekends.

    Hi DBCYeo,
The trick is to usually let the smaller fish acclimatised to the tank first before the bigger fish. Mick's case might be a one off case, I wouldn't worry too much about it. Btw, why are you letting go such a beautiful fish? Should have no problem with him if he's well fed. All catfish are scavengers, only about 15% develop predatory instincts but those are huge. Why not give it another go.

put the small fish in first... then put the fella in after..
you can rearrange the entire setting so it feels like a new tank.. then intro the new fish..then after a week put the fella in and try..
