I love this simple plant and my tank is full of it. Recently my some of my vallis started to change colour; initially all my vallis is light green to medium green colour, then about a month ago some of my vallis started to turn very light brown, got wooried thought something is wrong, but now after weeks of close observation about 5% of my vallis is turning from green to very light brown with slight reddish colour. All the plants with colour change is growing well, not dying.

Initially i do not like the colour as i prefer all green plants, but the very light brown and reddish colour is gorwing on me, may start a new tank wth all red, light brown plant if i have the time.

Anyone can help to explain why my vallis or why green plants change colour?

Unless they are dying for some reason, it could be your lighting intensity. Could you provide more data on your setup?

I get that colour change on portions of leaves very near the light source.

That's normal... they react this way to high lighting. The leaf sections furthur down will be green.

at first i thought its lighting too, but my light is only 13watt on 20 gallons. I have a vallis "plantlet" that started out in this light reddish brown colour, about 45cm from light source, will try to post a pic tomorrow night.

I think the reddish he is talking about is.... light brown or transparent type (light green) leaves from the vallis... As if the plants are not getting enough Co2 and lights to grow greener... usually occurs on new leaves....this is what i initially got when i put vallis in mny hall tank... after increasing the lights, the leaves grew greener...

Please post a picture such that we know what u r refering to..
