Depends on your filter cap and also how planted your tank is...
My 2ft has 40+ fauna in there... I think... Could be more...
Must diligently change water every week to maintain the condition...

Mine is a 60x35x35. Non-Co2 set-up with approximately 50% planted. Canister filter at 740l/h. Thanks.
You can start with a 20 tetras... Should be fine...
Yeps, something around 15 will be good.... for me, i have a 2 feet, i have a lot of fishes, around 40-50, not including 50+ malayan... look at bit weird, but important things is that they are healthy...will upgrade to 3 feet soon..
And one more thing... The number of fauna is relative to the size of fishes... Neon tetras are small and has lower biowaste compared to goldfish or livebearers... So you can afford to have so many in there... And shrimps the same as they don't produce alot of waste...
If that's the case, how about 40 tetras with 30-50 shrimps. Will it be overloaded?
No, 40 tetras is pushing it.
I'd keep maximum 15 tetras in there. Bear in mind the shrimp will breed to huge numbers.
Wah! If only 40 tetras still can consider... But with the shrimps involved, keep it at 15 as Terence suggested...
Still can consider? Lol, I suppose it can be done. But really... the tetras will feel and look cramped, unless it's small tetras we're talking about. 40 Boraras species will be better if you want 40 fish.
Of course, it's all imho.
Haha... I already have 40 in my tank... Luckily they take up different parts of the water column and shoal... Else traffic jam...
Oh.. guess I'm bit over ambitous with my fauna estimate. Just worried that the bio load might be insufficient for my non-Co2 setup. Will re-work my fauna population before my trip to the lfs. Thanks.
i once had over 60 fishes in a 2 ft....with shrimp....all abt 3.5 cm. Not anymore though...cos its a lot of work to keep up with them on water quality..
Started with a dozen neon & 5 feeder fish left over from tank cycle. After add on 8 malayan shrimp subsequuently 30 small cherries. Some casualties from the shrimp. All was well until the latest addition of another 15 neons (cos I find the school too small size). Then disaster, 6 neons died within 3 days
