Did you prime it properly? Heard that the canister must be filled, and there must be water in the hose?
someone wrote a article about a DIY priming kit.
i'd link the page to you but i don't know how to.[]

you need to fill the hose with water before the water can be sucked in ... this is what they call priming ... there are many ways to do it ... one way is to manually do it and make sure both hoses are filled with water as much as you can ... then turn on the motor and it shd be pumping away
... always look at the bright side of life

For me, I empty the water in canister, connect everthing, off the power supply. take out the rain bar, connect a tube to this outlet pipe and start to suck, you will hear water start to flow into the canister, you will not suck in any water as the canister is empty when you suck the water. You can on the power supply after water fill in the canister, connect the rainbar back.
I leanr this from this forum and it never let me down.
    Hope this will help.

I just got a Atman EF4 recently too. I seriously find that it is not easy to "start up" the callister. However, I happened to have a internal filter inside my tank. I connect the "IN" cable of the callister to the output valve of the filter and WOOHOOOO! watch how it runs......

Search for "Prime" or "Priming". Should bring up a few posts about priming cannister filters. Ask agian if you're not clear of the steps.
Vincent - AQ is for everyone, but not for 'u' and 'mi'.
Why use punctuation? See what a difference it makes:
A woman, without her man, is nothing.
A woman: without her, man is nothing.

I used c.y's method with my Fluval 303. Proves to be most effective IMO.
    Cheers!!

Atman is cheaper, and used German technology but made in China by its OEMs.
