I have crossed A. cacatuoides "orange Flash" and "double red" several times. The results are a bunch of attractive cacatuoides with mixed features. There is a mix of solid colors and patterned colors. It is easy to separate the different strains and re-fix them as pure orange or pure double red. One thing I have found is the double red strain becomes less red and more orange.

I have never seen anything that is especially spectacular come from this mixing but there is no reason not to try it and see if you can develop a new strain. After all, that is what the discus, guppy and betta people do continually.
