    Hi Kenneth,

For shrimp tank, both types of filter are fine if the water turn over is about 1.5 to 3 times per hour. Anything more will send the shrimps flying in the water.

To keep the water temperature cooler, most would prefer to use a hang on/overhead filter instead of internal filter. There might be a 1 to 2 degrees difference, depending on the wattage of the pump in the filter. Do take note.

Keep us updated on your shrimp tank!

overhead is the ans to my prob

thanks, i think i wil be using overhead. but from my past experience in my old tanks. 1 problem i incurred was that if the medium in the filter clogs up pretty badly, water will overflow out of the filtration box

If you only have shrimps and moss in your tank. I doubt it will ever clog. But do put a pre-filter in the inlet to prevent shrimplets from being sucked into the filter.

    filter

I just got off the phone with a DIY maker. Think I will be getting a internal built in filter, as it would conceal neatly.

    Thanks for all the advice.

That's will most likely to be an Internal Overflow System (IOS) filtration. Good for keeping the water well oxygenated.

Do show us a picture when the tank is ready!!

Yes. Provided you have moss, add aeration and have a cool temperature.

Mmm... I just planted some plants in the mini tank. later then I take photo and post. Now waiting for the water to stabilise, then thinking of putting maybe 3 cherry shrimps and 3 small cardinals. Tank size is about 15cmX12cmX15cm (LXDXH).
