    benetay, genes,

How do you differentiate female from male?

When to get a couple of females from biotope on Friday, unfortunately boss wasn't there & the uncle at the shop wasn't too sure.
Now I suspect one of the 2 I bought is actually a juv male.

I'm not sure either and i suppose i can't differentiate my fries out till they are like 7mths to 9mths old.

But general rule of thumb, high finnage and deeper colouration? Both my adult and juv female have short finnage.

Perhaps you could post some pictures here for us to see.

The fastest you can sex them is 3mths of constant feeding water change and changing to a bigger size tank. It depends on species to species, some grow faster whereas some grew a tad slower like the diplo.

So you have to really wait for fries...long waiting thats why a lot of breeders got tired of it and gave up. Thats also why some of the prices for apisto are so expensive too.

You're paying for what you're getting.
    Cheers!

    I'll say a female

Looks exactly like my female...black tip on the top finnage and yellowish body...hmmm...seems like she's dressed in breeding gown...

no lyretail, no 3 top dorsal, black ventral, prominant markings on the belly area, short ventral.

    My best guess, Female.

    Thanks guys.

Means I didn't pick wrongly. haha.

Now I just sit back & wait yeah.
Only problem, I notice one of them females doesn't really seem to be taking to dried food too readily.

She'll take eventually. My first pair of cacas took quite a while before they realise the sinking flakes were food too.
