    HELP!!

My male Apistogramma cacatuoides is acting really weird..
On further inspection, I noticed that he's breathing from only one side of his gills. The other side is closed, not being used for breathing!!!!!!

What am I to do.. Please help!!!

Are they new fish? Any new changes introduced recently? Any thing you feel might be contributing to this? We also need information on your tank setup like size, temperature, etc.

You probably have to observe the fella closely. Is he swimming around or sticking near the surface? Heavy breathing?...Experts please correct me if I'm wrong, if all these are present, it sounds like gill fluke?

he swims around but not as often as the female... he's more often in the cave ... there isnt really any heavy breathing.. just only one side is breating.. he'll eat ok.. during feeding he's just as active. also.. i see him trying to scratch something off from that side of his face occasionally.. right now he's swiming around..

    Tank Size : 12inchX8inchX8inch

    capacity : 11 litres

Water change Frequency: 50% per week

    Water PH : 6 to 6.5

    Lights: 9W (10 am to 10 pm )

    Filter: a small Overhang filter

Plants: Mini Nana on wood, some Grassy thing, Mixture of Taiwan and Java moss

Fauna: Apisto Caca Pair, 2 Otos, 2 Golden Pencils

CO2: DIY (i know that's not required but i think it the reason for my PH remaining constant, also the moss do well with it)

    Gravel: ADA

    Added Fert : Root Monster

Cave: Pasar Malam Coconut Shell with hole carved and wrapped in plastic mesh with Taiwan moss

the only thing added recently was the ADA soil. cos initially had some normal gravel.

did a 60% water change this morning and added a drop of Whitespot/itch.

    Hi Caca,
Newly introduced fish or been there for a long time? Fishes introduced together or which inorder? a drop of medication is not going to help your cause. maybe more than 1 infection here, let's hear from the others too. 1 more thing, when you added the ADA soil did you stir up alot of your substrate?
Something about the water & the fishes that calms me down.

You might want to look carefully if it's hole in head or cryst...cryst can be manually remove by a safety pin. Yorky has done that before. Works!

Hole in head yes octozine works okay but normally I'll try to prevent such issues to happen by getting healthy looking speciments from reliable people.

The sad part about diseases is that once you detect it, it might just be too late for a cure.

Yes it can be purchase at C328 i saw before.

So prevention is always better than cure.
    Cheers!
