May i know what is that filter you are using for your Cacautoides tank?![]()
Took some pics to share. Comments are always welcomed.![]()
Here is the 3 foot. Doing ok but thinking of shutting down soon.
Update of 10 gallon Cacautoides tank, only females left in this tank

Here's a new scape on the Nano, 'Sunrise'
Another shot of the Nano
Here's my Nano greenhouse
I propogated an African Violet by taking a leaf and placing on top of some Java Moss. The Moss acts as an anti-bacterial base, therefore the leaf (explant) does not degrade and new shoots develop along the stem.
Here's a shot with the lid off, you can clearly see the new shoots that have developed.
Thanks for looking.

ah...thanks...certainly looks like it...
is it available in singapore?
I don't think its a Hagen filter, off hand I can't remember exactly what make it is. I'll check tonight and let you know.

Hi, how do you create the sunrise background for the Nano tank 'sunrise'.
Looks good.![]()
A noob & poor aquarist
I got the idea from Norbert over at APC. Take a blank white sheet of paper and place about 10cm from back of tank. Shine a light onto the paper and take a picture. Easy.
Thanks bro. Ha ha... suddenly got an idea for a new tank...
White sands, corydoras, and a type of stem plant which looks like coconut tree, with the sunrise background.![]()
But no $$$! ARGH!!!!![]()

Hi Cameron,
That's a really neat idea for a mini green house for propagating the african violet!I am propagating some of my african violets too but so far, I only plant the leaf cutting when I see roots developed from the dipping method (dip the leaf stalk in the water until first sign of roots).
Did you make any holes on the bottle cap for the cover?
Can you share how long it took before the plantlets developed?
Cheers.

Hi there
This method seems to work very well for African Violets. There is no hole in the cap for ventilation, the sawed off bottle top just fits into the drip tray. The moss has been layed on top of a very thin layer of normal potting soil. I squirt about 12ml of fish tank water into the container every week. This is just enough to cover the top soil but not enough to submerge the moss. The leaf is just placed on top of the moss. I lift the lid once every 2 days or so just to get some fresh air in there. It took about 3-4 weeks if I recall correctly before the new shoots started developing. There are about 8 shoots on the above picture. You need to separate them with a sterilised razor blade and then place back into container until roots develop. They are then ready for the planting and 'hardening off' stage.
So you like African Violets too huh?
Kind Regards

Hi Avant
It is Indeed the Elite Stingray filter. I honestly don't recommend it for anything other than extra circulation. It does not do a very good job!

Hi Happy Camper, thanks haa...

Yes, I like the African violets alot. here's a pic of one of my 2 pots.
I place it above the HOB filter where it catches good sunlight from the window.
I'll try your method of propagating.
Cheers.
