C328, theres a variety of fishes, plants and accessories to choose from.
Hi
Have just setup a 3ft tank coming to 2 weeks. since this is new, has just introduce 50 neon tetra. No plants yet.
Have gone LFS, seen some nice fishes, just wonder what type of fishes can live in harmony in the same tank? For a start, i will like to keep small and easy maintain fishes. Pretty like the dwarf gourami and cardinal tetra. Are they easy to keep?
I stay in WEST singapore. Where can I go to see lot of fishes and cheaper fishes? I think the problem I have is not familiar with the names. From book, it has long name but the LFS use chinese name. Have hard time featuring out. sigh......
pls advise

You dont have plants in your tank?
I would stick to the tetra family for community harmony. Just have to deal with size, as some might bully small fishes and snatch food.
You already have 50 Neons, to mix cardinal and neons is quite wasteful, from cardinal pt of view.
I think a school of rasboras, or rummy nose will do well .... or black neon tetras as well..
C328 has lot of fishes to choose from. the problem is that they put different fishes in the same tank and the writing is unclear especially some written in chinese. You know there is only 3 person in the busy shop. Feel paisai, to ask each fishes and prices.... sigh.....
Plants tank. Not at the moment or maybe small setup. As planted tank is very X, need alot of care and maintenance. Even LFS, also says it will only last like 3 weeks or so and need to renew. Probably future project.
Yeah.. neon and cardinal together, everything becomes neon. Maybe should get gourami, rasboras, or rummy nose, etc
Bit risky to introduce so many tetras so early... get some rummy noses!!! If you don't want to maintain the tank too often get some cheap plants like crypts or moss.
actually living in west or other places does not affect u from buying fish.
ultimately is not about buying cheap fish, but good quailty fish.
as for rummy nose, there is one shop at yishun central selling at 10pcs for just 3 dollar, u can go there for cheap fishes if u feel it is expensive to buy from normal shop
maybe u can add in some nanas also? they are hardy plant and is suitable for ur tetra tank.
Huh?! Which LFS said that?!Originally Posted by crazyfish

Hi Crazyfish,
Welcome to Aquatic Quotient. Planted tanks are not very expensive if you plan in advance what you want. Do some research here, you'll be very surprized. As for the fishes, I would advise to go slow here. You wouldn't want to overcrowd here, if infection strike you'll be ill prepared. Wait a while, let the tank mature. Harlequins rasboras are nice and cheap, you might want to consider.
Something about the water & the fishes that calms me down.
Yah, I'm also interested to find out which lfs said something stupid like that.

Planted tanks is all about starting it right from the start...
So if you do all the research before hand, it is simple and inexpensive... And doing it expensive right from the start will mean cheap in the long run...
with some plants, it will make you fish look better.
The LFS is in the WEST. Probably, he does not have many plants and expert advise. As I new to this nature, I will just take this as an "advise" to learn more from there. Like all bros advise, need to research in forums, LFS, etc and get the right foundation before moving forward.Originally Posted by Weirong
So if I decide to go with plants, will start min hardy plants. Will visit the suggested LFS this wkend and learn from the guru..
thank for giving me advise
In the west only got a few LFS... Hahaha... Hmmm... Think roughly is THAT one...
There is one LFS in Jurong East market, block 25something.. the boss cultivating a lot of moss and quite experience too..
Let's give crazyfish advice instead of talking about what LFSes say

maybe we should ask him to read up on the nirtogen cycle and basic relation between the plants and creatures in the tank.
Try to put some fast growing plants to prevent algae outbreak!!!
