Apistos natural habitat are literally void of plants, just leaves litter and probably some wood, but personally I think a piece of wood with some java ferns make the fish more comfortable in the confined space of a tank.

...I love rubies too ...
Ken
Junde ain't you the catus guy staying at bukit batok?
Anyway yes, you don't need plants if you want to keep apisto there is no hard and fast rule on this.
So just dump in wood, clay pots, ceramic stuff...etc...and the fish of cos.
be reminded that they still need a filter etc...
Cheers!

And substrate (dark color preferred) will be good, even with no plant.

For better living environment, use ADA soil to have a low PH value. Hope i am right![]()

yeah, i agree too, ada amazonia is good as it is dark in color and boost a low ph level, no need for you to worry about lowering ph levels using other troublesome methods like black water or peat.....can last for quite sometime too....

This is how my tank looks like. Is it ok for apisto?
And i got some inhabitants inside which I don't know what they are. Can someone tell me? Thanks!
oh ya.. and about the substrate, i didn't use the one you guys recommended as I didn't want to spend money on the tank. I used stuff from my old tank instead. Will my substrate color affect the enviroment? Colorful fishes looks good in dark substrate right? Will apisto not get use to the light colored stubstrate?
benetay, You from GCS too? Sorry, I got a bad memory.. haha..

I think the first fish is Chanda Ranga. Let's hear from the rest.![]()
Something about the water & the fishes that calms me down.

It looks good enough to house apistos. I will add more ferns to give the setup a more natural look.
You might want to add some small ceramic pots for the apistos to spawn. If you dun like the pots to spoil your scape. Place them behind your driftwood.
is lemon tetra and Chanda Ranga the same?
anyone knows if west side got sell that fish?
do they shoal?
think they will look pretty nice if schooling together.
and
genes,
is ceramic pots a must to have if i wanna spawn apistos?
just did a search online.
think my fish looks neither like the both...

Not exactly, but i was told apistos prefer ceramic pots and also they act as caves for them to breed in. Of course, there might be other opinions on this.

It is a glassfish, a Chanda sp.. It will relish brackish water and don't think it will do well in an Apisto set up. Pity, as it is a very beautiful fish.

I'm crypt collecting... Starting cheap, now have Cryptocoryne beckettii, C.beckettii var petchii, C.crispatula var.balansae, C.griffithii(Melted!), C.nurii, C.parva, C.pygmaea(Melted!
), C.tonkinensis(Melted!
), C.walkeri, C.wendtii 'Brown', C.wendtii 'Green', C.wendtii 'Green Gecko', C.wendtii 'Tropica' and Cryptocoryne x willisii
Oh, juggling is hard work, man!...

No longer, it's Parambassis now, possibly P. lala?. Brackish is not a neccessity, it will do well in pure freshwater.Originally Posted by Justikanz

Hmm... But in the low pH waters of Apisto set ups, I don't think it will do good... Best to stick to tetras or barbs...

and how do i get to maintain a low ph?
wun the plants die?

junde,
Your questions seems pretty broad based.
I think you should do some reading of the old threads in the forum. All the answers to you queries can be found in detail if you do a search and more importantly, read.
Otherwise, join us in one of our outings and ask away. That's if you can handle information overload.![]()
Cheers,
I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?
