Hi, wanna ask whether it is possible to DIY a canister filter without a pump, and is driven by another canister filter(Eden 501) ??

Because the water in the canister is "pushed" out instead of "pulled" by a pump, the pressure in the container will be quite high i think...

My question is whether the pressure build-up will be too great for the lock-n-lock container, causing it to leak from the seal or elsewhere?

Will this severely reduce flow rate?
(slight reduction for eg. 30% reduction is okay...)

Intend to DIY this to house extra bio-filtration media, and maybe activated carbon when needed...

Thanks for your answers in advance!

Why use Lock n Lock container when there's plastic bottles lying around for free? Won't leak and you can even house a single filtration media in each bottle. You need to drill 2 holes for the inlet and outlet tube or hose. Think about it.
If you've learnt, teach, if you have, give.

hehe... i thought of that too...

but because i might put things like activated carbon sometimes, so plastic bottle quite hard to change the activated carbon media because the hole is so small... unless can find those with big caps...

was think whether those with screw-in caps (eg. nalgene water bottles) will be more "water-tight" then lock-n-lock... but nalgene is so expensive; then not sure whether those cheaper water bottles will be "water-tight" enough a not...

so was thinking of lock-n-lock containers...

What about just switching the ins and outs on your container. Have the bottom be the inlet from the tank and the top be the outlet to the filter. You'll get better mech filtration added as well. It's basically following the theory behind the way the Classic series on Eheim are built.

you can have both inlet and outlet on top...one is 1 inch pipe and another is with a pipe till the bottom of your container. the lock and lock can be used to house media only while the eden 501 is for filter wool only.
