use some rocks to weigh it down temporarily; until they soak enough water.
or soak the wood in a pail of water for a couple of weeks.
or boil the wood to expel air inside the wood.

Would suggest you boil the wood!
In my opinion, its the fastest and safest way to make the wood sink!
The process also sterilise the wood!
If not, you might have to wait for weeks, if not months before the wood sinks!
Oh my, where to find a big pot to cook the wood ?!
May be I will try soak it in a hot tub with some rock weighting it?
you can try boiling a kettle of hot water and place the biggest/thickest portion of the wood at the bottom of the pail and pour in the hot water![]()

Oh! 1 more trick, I had tried hanging fish hook with weight and hook onto the hidden area of the wood and try weighing it down for a period. 1 troublesome issue is that you must have spare weigh with hook for exchange within the next 2 weeks before it got rusty...

What I meant was to pour boiling water over the wood in a large tub!
Sorrie for the misunderstaning!

For me, i use boiling water like what the guys did..and change the water weekly..i soak them for about a month plus..i once bought a DW about a feet in length, no weights tied to it..initially float like styrofoam..a month later sink like submarine. i prefer slow wait with water changes so as the wood is clean and sterile when i introduce to the fishes. oh by the way i think bogwood takes even
longer...do not rush,thats my opinion..wood is organic.
I cannot agree more... waiting could be the best solution... do not have to worry the dry 'block' rpoducing some moudy substance or chemical...Originally Posted by densagoku

Thanks everyone
After one week of soaking with weighted rock (in a tub seperate from the tank) they finally reaching the bottom. The tub water after one week of "marinating" was truly horrific !
Did your water turn yellow??
wat i did was jus glue the wood to a pebble to weight it down...
glued??
why did you do that? Wouldnt it contaminate the water?

Anyway after trying out, I found 2 pieces were overkilled and finally decided on using just one of them

Appreciate comment and suggestion.
you can use aquarium-safe silicone. will not contaminate the water. however, there is a curing period.Originally Posted by kemp
