recently took my kiddies to jalan jalan in Sungei Buloh Wetlands…
it was low tide, and the shallow waters are teeming with schools of archerfish.
straightaway we found this female Nephila antipodiana mating, the male is the little red dot near the thorax.
and then a male Argiope sp. waiting for prey.
every SAF soldier's wet dream, the Dillenia suffruticosa.
a rather common ginger plant…
more little wild flowers…
some mangrove crab…
and here is a gang of Cerberus rynchops (Dog-faced Water Snake) and a Hemigobius hoeveni (Banded Mullet-goby)…

now more plants,… the tiny flowers of the mangrove tree Avicennia alba (api api puteh)…
a fairly common tree covered with red berries…
just don't step on the many Varanus salvator (Malayan Water Monitor), all of whom paid me scant attention with a disdainful glint in their eyes, this one is almost 4ft long without the tail.
and finally my highlight of the day, a 1ft high shrub that looks like a raintree but bearing large numbers of dangling miniscule flowers.

don't know if they are poisonous, from what I know about the head shape, probably not.

you dont judge how posionous a snake is by its head shape..
those snakes are mildly venomous.. you probably wont die from a bite.. but its not fun either..
oh..yeah..they are back fangged.. just like a cobra.

I think Costus no longer considered as gingers (Zingibericeae), although still in same Order.

ya. Costus is easily recognised by the spiralling habit of its upward growing stem. Some sources put it as a native, but I suspect it's introduced, as it's found mainly on disturbed land - never in forest, unlike the native Etlingeras.
so I write it as Costus sp. ?

But you can identify the snake by the shape of it's head. If I remember correctly , the black mamba's is shaped like a coffin (the ang-moh type, not the Chinese "Mr Vampire" type)eh I thought they say square head one not poisonous
can you link in the image so it is full size? I like the concept, geometry in nature? similar idea to my mimosa posted previously.

most snakes aren't that aggressive if you dont go provoking them over and over again.. they have no reason to strike. People like to think that snakes are malicious animals and thats the reputation they have had for ages.. but in truth.. they are very nice animals.. my favourite actually..No joke! not square head ones got a lot... common brown snake (Pseudonaja textilis) or the inland taipan (Oxyuranus microlepidotus)... dont go touching snakes in australia... 2 of the most venomous snakes on earth...i mean top 2
If you survive a bite.. you will never be able to use antivene again..since it will take so much to cure you that your body wont be able to take anymore in the future.
