From my experience, those transparents tubing is good enough compare to those specialise black tubing. Have been using for a year plus for few tanks, so far so good.Originally Posted by jhseah
Hi
I would like to know if the normal air tubing can be used for connecting from the CO2 cylinder to the bubble counter and to the tank? Or must use special type?
Pls advise.

I read that the normal air tubing we use causes CO2 leakage due to the pressure and permability of the silicone or something like that.
I only use the black hard kind for connection from the regulator to check valve. From there onwards it's normal air tubing.
IME, think the black tubing will work better!
Those normal transparent air tubing, will expand over time and might cause a slight loss in CO2.
If you are using a diffusor, you might observe that some of the CO2 is escaping throught the joint instead of going throught the diffusor!
I am using those black but soft type. The tube is quite thick.

Something about the water & the fishes that calms me down.
Sounds like the work of Mr Chan... Hahaha... I also have the same outfit... Used back my old normal air tubing from the bubble counter to my internal reactor... Black tubing from regulator to check value to counter...Originally Posted by |squee|
silicone tubing is said to loose about 30% co2 due to permeability.
pneumatic tubing is resistant to co2 but is very stiff. can withstand up to 10 bar or 145 psi.

Thanks for the feedback.
I used to have the black tubing but overtime, the tubing became very hard/brittle, once I bend it slightly, opps it gave way and break.

fyi, the lsf in yishun 900+ is selling those tubings for $1/ft. dunno expensive or not, i've just bought 1m to replace my existing ones as they are already 3-4yrs.
just to share my experience here...
if you are saving money by using normal air tubing, don't use the translucent type. They come in green or orange color and is soft spongy when squeezed. This kind will dissolve over time when in contact with CO2 or heat.
Use the clear transparent type instead. On average it lasted me 2-3 yrs before changing.
c328 got sell those JBJ CO2 tubing 2m and 3m (packed standard).
Price is around $8-12 i think. Think those are real co2 tubing rubber type not silicon ?
Bro,
I'm keen to get one myself but you mentioned LFS in Yishun 900+, but there's about 3 or more of them there, wonder are you refering to Aquastar?

apparently they are soft like silicon too.
i'm wondering if they are silicon or are CO2 resistant.
