I'm thinking of starting a nano tank for the work table in my room. I want to keep it extremely low-tech.

Is there a possibility of having the tank without any lighting and CO2 and filtration? Also, if such a scenario should be pictured, what fanua and flora can be kept?

Since I sleep with the air con on, temperatures at night can go below 22 degrees celcius and day time should be around 27 degrees.

Duckweeds and Mosquito fishes? Just kidding.

I assume you mean in the presence of normal room lights? Most of the common Crypts can do well, besides the usually hardy Java ferns and Anubias species.

I am also in the midst of starting a Nano tank, first have to find the perfect tank size for my table...if its too big, it will take up too much space on my table.

    Items to get so far;
    1) Nano tank
    2) Clip-on PL light
    3) moss
    4) Betta or shrimps...still cannot decide.

    Thats it....no filter no nothing...

    Hi Nicholas,

What hang on filter is that?

so far the really small ones i have seen are Ocean Free ones and i think Jebao. They are really quiet and seems like a good investment.

Not sure if this is low tech enough for you...

It was in the office with aircon.

    Specs:
    43x27x29cm3
    1x10W FL x 12 hours/day
    1xEden 316 internal filter

    Flora:
    Vesicularia Dubyana (Java Moss)
    Hydrocotyle Leucocephala
    Anubias Nana

    Fauna:
4x Cynops Orientalis (Chinese Fire Belly Newts)

No CO2, no fertilisation except for whatever comes from frozen bloodworms and newt poo. The H. Leucocephala would grow until it starts to turn yellow... indicating low nutrient levels. All I needed to do was trim away 3/4 of it, leaving some healthy strands and it will regrow healthily till it outcompeted itself again.

Vincent - AQ is for everyone, but not for 'u' and 'mi'.
Why use punctuation? See what a difference it makes:
A woman, without her man, is nothing.
A woman: without her, man is nothing.

I have several small tanks up to 1 ft cube with no Co2, filtration, fertilising. But I think like is necessary to enjoy the aquascape and for the plants.

See some of such setups at the thread Low-tech (non-CO2) tanks post your pics! for inspiration.

If I am not wrong, the smallest one I can find is the Jebo 501
