Is is true shrimps can help to clear dead leaves in a tank. I got heaps of dead leave left with my E. Tenellus, but everytime I try to pull them out, the live plants also get pulled out. Any chance, to recommend any shrimps? Thinking of getting Malayan. BTW, I don't have any moss.

I have not seen shrimp clear dead leaves; they may inspect and nibble, but not clear. Snails on the other hand are very interested in dieing leaves, but once the plant cellulose skeleton / remains are the only thing left they move onto something easier to digest.

hi I've tried malayan shrimps, that time i bought one bag and threw into my 2 ft tank. cleared everything in 3 days. hardworking shrimps.

but do ensure your tank have enough hidding place for them and no predators after them. also, once the tank runs out of dead leaves, feed them as you do for the fishes. that's what i learn after 100 shrimps and now left with 15, hee hee.

Really? Malayan shrimps clear out dead leaves? Hmmm, I had Yamatos in my tank for a year now but they never were interested in the dead leaves. Maybe should try putting in Malayan. Hopefully, they can co-exist with the 5cm big Yamatos I have in my tank. What about cherries? Are they as efficient? Cherries are prettier compared to Malayan.

My friend had yamatos, cherries, and malayan shrimps in his 4ft planted tank. Not only there co-exists well, they even breed a lot of shrimplets.

ha yamato when big always lazy and eat fish food.

as for cherries, I did not notice whether they clean up the dead leaves, but come to think of it, the LFS Colourful always put his cherries in a small tank that looks dirty with dead leaves, but the tank just remain like that till now, so i guess maybe they aren't that good a cleaner...
