here are some pictures of my new juveniles...

I got them day before yesterday, followed the routine of floating the bags for 45min and mixing the tank water slowly for 30min and the putting them in the tank.they were a bit shy in the light for the first 36Hrs or so but today they seemed comfortable in the light, The problem it's been two days now and they havn't eaten at all as far as i know , cause i also added 4 kuhli loaches with them and i think that they eat the food. I tried giving them Tetrabits and regular flake food, they do not eat them rightaway but when i turn the lights the food is gone, i don't know whether the loaches or the fish are eating the food.

    please advice....

the king of the aquarium juveniles need a bit of pampering and training to eat flakes or bits.

this is because most breeders feed them a blended beef heart mix to fatten them up. [i use pork heart so depending on your belief] most reputable breeders give them a mix of bits, blood worms or BH to make sure the fellas aren't too picky when they reach the average hobbyist.

it may be shy now because for sure breeding tanks aren't as brightly lit or planted. just keep an eye on them for the time being. watch the temp too. don't let it go below 28c for long periods. they lose their appetite and fall sick easily at low temps+poor water conditions.
    hope this helps.

this is normal. mine did not eat for a whole week and all the food got eaten up by giant pleco and tetras, they didn't have a chance against these fast swimmers. Initially they just hid in the caves but after a week, they start to assert their presence and now they just gulp down whatever i threw and very fast too!! so, no worries. some tips:- it's good to have places for them to hide, they will feel more secure. Aslo feed them bloodworms to stimulate their appetite, thereafter a mixture of brine and tetrabit
There will be no more deaths after the holocaust. Of course, having 3 fishes in my 400L tank helps.

very nice harsh, another trick is put some dither fish in with them such as rummynose or cardinals, the discus seem to settle quicker, the blood-worm is a good idea.

they started eating today, i gave them a mixture of moistened bloodworms and crushed tetrabits and they hungrily ate them all. I'm so relieved, they ae also moving around the tank much more than before.
they are a treat to watch..
    thanks for all the advice

    good to hear that.

vratenza-25-28c would be a good compromise.
keeping at 25c throughout will make it quite miserable for them.

One more thing; Seeing them eat today i don't think he loaches will be any competition for food, infact i might have to worry about their nutrition

    anyway good day today.
    thanks again

am giving some more pics, some people in another local forum are suggesting that they are stunted. Wanted to get your opinion.

they do look a bit on the small side.

eyes look a teeny bit large in proportion to body. the orange one is skinny.[shrunken fore head]

how long have you kept them?

which other forum are you refering to?

Have previously been advised that it is easier to keep full grown discus for planted tanks. As the normal environment that we keep planted tanks is not as condusive for growth as a bare tank with constant water changes.

Hope your discus will grow to the full size. Cause they will definitely look nice in a setup like yours.
