Ugh - Leaking Tank - solutions?

Need a bit of help here.

I just bought a 2 feet tank from C328 in Clementi. Upon putting everything - fishes, gravel, plants, equipment - turns out that the tank is leaking. Couldn't tell where it was - but it was my wife who first noticed that there was some water seeping on the plastic ledges on the tank bottom.

When we cleared everything out from the tank, the surface where the bottom of the tank had rest upon was wet - despite us having dried it earlier on.

Need help. What are my options? I can't tell where the leak is coming from.

    1) Bring it back to C328 for an exchange or repair?

    2) Fix it myself, but how?

    3) Throw the tank away?!

    Thanks!

i will rule out option 3, afterall u paid for it!

Since you uncertain where the leakage is, might as well bring it back in exchange for a new set. Guess newly bought item should not be a problem exchanging it, if spoiled!

try go back to where you bought! it's consumer rights'!

juz bring it back to C328 for an exchange. I'm sure there's exchange policy. I've bought my from Aquastar and was told that any leak, bring back within 3 days for exchange

Ok - thanks for the tips so far. Clementi is pretty far from where I'm staying so I was hoping to be sure before I have to take time off work to go there that the owner would be willing to effect an exchange - the auntie was running around pretty busily, so it was the middle-aged guy who served us instead.

If it's just too much hassle, buy another one. Use this one for an emersed setup, or as a greenhouse

Bro, i would suggest try to make the exchange within a few days. Or else give them a call first and let them know and then see hw's the arrangement gonna be for you with them

Two possible causes; 1) glass crack due to mishandling, 2) glass joints not enough silicon or have air-pockets.

Check if there is crack on the glass? Use a torch to check or run your fingers slowly over every surface. Be careful not to hurt yourself. If glass is cracked, C328 auntie may not honor exchange... try your luck.

If no cracks found, then check silicon. Dry out tank completely. Wipe every surface till no droplets of water can be seen. Place empty tank on sheets of newspaper. Slowly fill up with water and check which part of newspaper got wet. Narrow your search from there.

OK; at the moment the tank is already in the car boot and I'm at work - so gonna drive there after lunch.

My suspiscion is that it's one of the bottom corners, but which one I couldn't tell. The bottom is completely covered of plastic as well, so I don't think the newspaper thing would work as it is. When we cleared the tank off equipment and water yesterday (the water had been inside for only around 15 minutes), the table had a thin film of water all round where the base had been.

Update: we went down in mid-afternoon to talk to the uncle, and he willingly exchanged the tank. Only thing was that there weren't another identical one, so we exchanged it for a 5 plan 2 feet that had a slightly higher price tag. We were also having some problems fitting in the two plastic struts for the 2 feet Atman lighting, so the uncle did it for us, then help choose a new fan for the setup. In total, he spent around 45 minutes helping us set it all up - the two lighting fan struts were slightly oversized, so he had to work a bit to get the struts in.

The final bill - he didn't charge us for the tank upgrade or the Oyama replacement paper for the background. My wife was very impressed with how helpful the shop was.

We've since setup the new tank; hopefully this tank won't leak (so far it hasn't). Thanks all for your inputs again.

To be honest, I'm surprised. Most folks just know the shop to be a bargain haunt and not for it's service unless you are a regular customer. Looks like they are improving.

Recently, they even agreed to change their miserable Apistogramma merchandising. They used to put 4 fishes in a little betta tank.

    Cheers,

Hmm - that's perculiar. I wouldn't say the uncle was much of a conversationalist nor did he seem wildly enthusiastic with two hapless persons who couldn't do something like DIY a fixture with struts that couldn't go in. But he did assist us for 45 minutes without complaint nor show impatience.

Pricing wise, we actually found a number of items at Polyart cheaper. In fact, it seemed that the owner of Polyart had been aggressively remarking his prices for many items to be cheaper than C328. I remarked to him (cheekily heh) that there were a lot of aquarium hobbyist shops in the block, and we engaged in some light banter about how his business can still run in the face of such competition.

Good business-minded shopowners would generally take in constructive opinions from their customers to stay competitive and generate higher resale opportunities... And I think C328 is merely doing it to make sure that we as hobbyist go back to their shop to make our purchases...

Unlike some shops that we probably have met along the way during the luohan boom...

PolyArt...dun get me started with them... One time, there was " made in taiwan" written on something, and they argue with me that it was made in Japan. They told me the taiwan one will write "Taiwan", not "Made in Taiwan".

So I said.. " You can fool some people some time, but you can't fool all the people all the time" [bob marley, jamming]

All factual statement. No subjective opinion or insinuation here. It's fine.
