Hi guys, i'm still have problems with GW despite trying out diff techniques... eg, blackout for 5 days, dosing with medicine, putting some nonsense plant to help absorb nutrients, etc... sigh, sad to say those methods did not work for me, water is green as ever!

    http://www.aquaticplantcentral.com/f...ap-method.html

recently i read this thread from APC... method introduced sound pretty amazing... but the only thing is where to find the 'Willow' tree? do we have them in SG? hoping some experts would know where to find them locally? pls advise...

    cheers

    yo flush!
u can try to use daphnia to cure ur green water...works for me,,i've tried blackout method last time...if it didn't work..means ur green water condition is quite "jialat" like mine last time..

u dose medicine? u mean those solutions meant to clear away green water...hmm..not advisable though...

Bro, from what i see.... the amount you are spending on these meds and other methods can buy a UVC already with some to spare for coffee! FYI, i got myself a 13w UVC from Jebao at around $40+ only.... and this 13W is more than enough for a 180G tank like my 6 ft one..... if yours is smaller tank...can get those 9W or 11W ones which is even cheaper.....
hope this help......UVC is the only proven way to confirm treat the GW....

Try a florist as they often use willow branches in ornamental setups. Let us know if it works.

no no... i bought a spawning net as well, but noticed that the holes were not fine enough, so replaced it with some stockings instead... hope they work well... i even blacked out the tank and dosed some medicine... 3 methods in 1 attempt... pray hard after 3 days the GW will be gone!

okie...good luck to u...imho, better dun dose those medicine. not very reliable and u nv know wat harm they may do to ur plants...daphnia should do the job..if 1 time cannot, throw in another round of daphnia, i use 2 spawning net to keep the daphnia out of contact wif the fishes, but they'll still be gone somehow in 2-3 days...

meanwhile, throw in a packet of carbon into ur filter... heard it'll help too...

Yo Flush, UV is the faster way to rid GW problem. The downside is having to deal with more equipment (unsightly, hose connection, pump, etc.). Also note that UV lamp requires changing at intervals, can be costly.

One of my conventional methods is to use water hyacinth. (Not sure if my method is suitable for planted tank.) This plant is known to suck up any excess nutrients from the water and also block off sunlight. I dump a few of these into my outdoor pond whenever the water turns green. Another method I heard of is to use Barley Straws, but I've never tried this since Barley Straw is not available.

taz, haven't looked at the water! haha i want to be surprised... yup the dapnia are still there... i'm gonna wait 1 more day...

alan, i have some nonsense plants floating ard to help with the absorbing of nutrients... but it's not water hyacinth... if the daphnia did not work, that's it, i'm going for UV... barley straws, heard abt it but not too sure where to get them! heh heh thanks for the advise!
