African wood for shrimps?

Hi,
Just went to NA and saw some wood that looks a bit burnt on one side and was told by the uncle (Mr Chan's father?) that it is African wood. Wood looks quite nice but the uncle said that they did not put it in any of their tank. Therefore, I'm afriad that if I put it in my shrimp tank, it'll affect my shrimps. Anybody tried this wood before?

so luenny, you mean those wood aren't meant for aquarium uses?!?! best is have pic, maybe if nice worth trying out!
