    A. hongsloi from Germany: I bought this pair months ago;
    I was very impressed of the colour of the female fish and
    the extended fins of the male fish ^.^

    For this setup, you don't use ADA aquasoil? This substrate looks like mini eggs. Are they any good?

    I think this fish will look even more spectacular if it's in a planted tank. Those we have are are not as red. A far cry.

    Cheers,
    I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?

    Nice colours, I like hongsloi, missed my last pair... quite a easy species to spawn actually. It's not ADA soil, I read it sometime back but forgot what, perhaps blueblue can clarify
    ...I love rubies too ...

    Thanks all. Yes, the substrate is NOT ADA aquasoil. It is a local kind of aquasoil, artificially produced as a small ball. With it, water can be kept soft and slightly acidic. It is more convenient to use and cleaner than the ADA's... price is 25% lower than ADA's.

    Good idea and you won't feel regret for it!!

    (You know, i have put huge effort in three apistos species for several years:
    Eliza, hongsloi, and aggie; Aggie is not challenging to me anymore
    (i have kept over 30 different kinds of aggie and i have successfully
    bred ALL kinds of it..), hongsloi breeds easily but difficult
    to make the F1 as red as the parents, ... )
