Just to check with you guys...

My Apistogramma sp. 'wilhelmi' pair bred and have some free swimming fries but the funny thing is that my female is running away...hiding! The male is taking care of all the fries by himself. Killing already 3 dither fish.

Have you guys ever encountered this situation whereby the male is taking care of the brood instead of the female?

Yup i agree to it cos most male will do that but this male is strange...have been checking on him for 3 days..thought he eat them but he spill them out to cluster all the fries together and without any female nearby. the female is hiding somewhere else....first time seeing such a good dad but sooner or later fear that the male will eat all the fries also.

Strange really....but do keep a watchful eye on the number of fries bro.... once you see something which is not right, better to take the fries out....
    Hope all goes well?

haha thanks for the advice guys...i do have a problem in moving any of them as dun have the space anymore...my Ap. parallestein pair breed in my 2ft community tank with a total of 6 different Apistogramma pair inside,my Ap. trifasciata pair having 2nd brood now,my Ap. macmasteri pair in breeding mood and worst of all my fries tank (consisting of Ap. viejita and Ap. wilhelmi fries are getting bigger) so any new fries to be put inside means food for them.

Anyway this Ap. wilhelmi pair is inside my Misc tank consisting of all leftover species.Never think they will breed but they prove me wrong..

i had a glass container already with ada soil inside.tried once to put my Ap.trifasciata fries inside but all kena wipeout...i think got to do with the slight different in water conditions as fries are sensitive.

i cant partition the tank cos of the landscape..lava rock and rock slabs...dun want to disturb the tank cos this is the only tank can get a low ph of just 4 without any ada soil and dun ask me how it is possible cos i myself dun know.

How big is the wilhelmi fries ?
Why not try to modify 1.5litre soft drink bottle, make fine holes on the bottle & try to float it in that tank. I think it will have the same PH

Yes, i did have similar experiences. My finding is: Male apistos could look after the fry especially for some species in the caca complex and agassizii complex. I had this experience with diplo, too.

By 1 month most of the fries will be big enuff to handle themselves. So as to continue the pair to let them spawn.
    Cheers!
