    Hi guys,

Riccia fluitans! It's a horrible weed and spread like wild fire! Can't seem to get rid of it.

Anyway, here's a picture of it.

Composition reference for those interested in taking part in the aquarium plant photography contest.

    Cheers,

Every little bit that breaks and floats off can develop into the next monster riccia infestation.. that is why it is such a pest..
    i HATE it with passion!!

    Cheers,
    - Brilliant promo there ! Now I want to lay my hands on these weeds and a decent camera!
This makes me believe that the best way to keep these weeds less irritatable while enjoying its beauty is just to have a Riccia ONLY tank. Gosh! And here goes another WANT for another tank.

This picture is evil, Benny :P

But if you use a common hose or net. It could 'infect' your other tanks easily. Be warned!

I got 2 big palmfuls out of nowhere... I think a small piece must had been accidentally introduced into the tank when buying some plant... I now religiously remove any bit of riccia that I see floating around!...
    Read me! http://justikanz.blogspot.com/

    I'm crypt collecting... Starting cheap, now have Cryptocoryne beckettii, C.beckettii var petchii, C.crispatula var.balansae, C.griffithii(Melted! ), C.nurii, C.parva, C.pygmaea(Melted! ), C.tonkinensis(Melted! ), C.walkeri, C.wendtii 'Brown', C.wendtii 'Green', C.wendtii 'Green Gecko', C.wendtii 'Tropica' and Cryptocoryne x willisii

Oh, juggling is hard work, man!...

Had it once too. Got tired of taking the riccia out from my tank and got sick of it until I removed the whole thing altogether. Luckily it is in a 2 ft tank and no major problem to remove all of them. Do agree that they look nice and pearls but it keeps floating and irritates me. I think that is what it makes people love or hates it.

i hated riccia when i was trying to get rid of it in my tank after i finally realised that i was too lazy to maintain the riccia lawn.
but i have to thank this plant for introducing me to the world of planted tank. i was attracted to planted tank when i saw the lawn of riccia with hundreds of shiny pearls in a lfs.

For some reason they don't look as good in photos as they do in real life!

I've never been attracted to Riccia and its use in Amano's tanks. Only very few have managed to arouse my like-ness.

It looks good, definitely but to get it to pearl means medium to high lighting requirement. This means grows faster, this means retie regularly. I think the people here who say they hate/dislike riccia are the been there done that and the novelty and beauty of seeing riccia pearl is long gone because of the 2-4weeks look good and 2 weeks look at netting.

Even if you like the theraphy of retying, most of us don't have the time to do so as it is a work intensive plant.

Actually the bad thing about riccia is removal. It is not easy to totally remove this plant once you put it into your tank. Since they are growing well in your tank, will always see bits and pieces of it floating on the surface of your water. I think this is the main reason for the hate affair.

when i first saw planted tanks with riccia and shrimps it got me back to fishkeeping.
after reading this thread i am seriously reconsidering using this plant...
especially, when it evoks words like love, hate, passion and religious....
