my 9 clown killies are down to 2 just after a week. I just don't know why. I kept a previous batch for 2 months and no prob. What could be the problem? I am using a 2 feet planted tank with ADA amazonia soil, some fish had some ich, but i cleared it with malcahite green, salt and up temp (usual stuff). temp normally at 28 degrees. Using a hanging filter too. Fert dose is seachem flourish a week, 2 drops of oceanfree iron fert a day and a cap of seachem excel every alternate day.

A cap of Seachem Excel for 2ft? Isn't that overdosing already?

    Instructions on dosing:
On initial use or after a major (> 40%) water change, use 1 capful (5 mL) for every 40 L (10 gallons*). Thereafter use 1 capful for every 200 L (50 gallons*) daily or every other day.

Have you stopped dosing the Malcahite Green already? Clown killies may be sensitive to these.

Poor clown killies. I think it is best to isolate the clown killies into another tank/container until your tank is free of ich and medication. Since generally, small fishes are weaker and less resistance to medication or chemicals added/changes to the tank. Some more I think medication only weakens the fishes. I have 3 now and have no major problems in my tank.

Ah ok, will take note. So far my last 2 killies are doing fine. Still sad about it, but will watch my parameters.

Or maybe the batch of clown killies you bought is not fully aclimatise yet. I have clown killies too, bought them from Aquatic concepts and solutions last year. Have them for so long till afew of them died from old age.

I also dose exel sometimes, 3-4 caps for my 3ft.

Might be, I know it is not malcachit green that is causing it, as I am still using it. Somehow, something else is afflicting my tank. I get a death almost every week.
