    Hi folks

This is my 3 footer. I just trimmed the plants and decided to post before and after shots. As always your comments and constructive criticism will be valued. Many thanks.

    Before the Trim.

After Trim - should fill in quite nicely now.

    Thanks for looking.

Yes I am planning on adding moss to the DW. Here in South Africa there are no forground plants available except for Lilaeopsis and I hate that stuff (Or more accurately it does not like me )

    Hi Richietay

There are alot of aquarists here and the hobby is booming but there are only a very small handful of us that keep planted tanks. Of course I am trying my best to promote the trend here on local forums. Hardware like co2 compressed gas is difficult to find and also very very expensive, in fact you have to RENT a bottle of co2 from a gas company and pay per month for it. So everyone here is mostly using DIY or else they convert old fire extinguishers into something more useful for the plants

There is a local carpet plant here called Marsilea but it is not available at local fish stores and its illegal to collect it! I tried to get some Fissidens and Riccia over here that was posted from a fellow hobbyist in the Netherlands but it was stopped at customs!!!! They are VERY strict here with the importation of flora and fauna. So we have to do the best with what we have available.

Yes there are beautiful biotopes here in South Africa, later this year I plan on making a round country trip to some of the more interesting places, and yes of course I will post the pictures when the time comes

Nice chatting with you, cheers for now.

    Kindest Regards
    Cameron

cool idea to use the old fire extinguishers. Converting them to co2 tanks? Will be great if you happen to have any pics of them

wow, the tank is really beautiful... and i agree with richietay, perhaps a bit of shorter vegetation in the foreground would enhance the taller, wavy stalks at the back
    all the best!

For the flora and fauna, maybe you can check with the customs in your country.. seek some permit.... and the person sending oso has to send the certificates.... this is what i think...

but you can keep trying until the day they dun catch you,...

Maybe you might want to start something which is close to a South Afican biotope? I think that would be interesting... Something different...

Vincent, thats a nice suggestion and one I have considered before. Problem is you need permits and have to go through loads of red tape. Everything here is monitored VERY closely by conservation specialists. I want to show you guys some pictures of the freshwater streams and ponds from the Knysna forest. I'm sure you will like it alot.

So no one selling or cultivating those plants available in native South Africa?
Guess I understand the concerns by the environmentalist... Especially when your country has such a diversed animal wildlife...
