Nice simple setup! The point is thatit provide very little coverage for apisto will like to say that it's better if you can provide more coverage, hiding space for them.

Sometimes when the female is not ready to spawn the male will keep pestering the female till she die of injuries or stress. It's prudent you add in more covers for them.

    Cheers!

I think a few more will suffice, one more unless it covers a big area yes...Just give them a small area to come out to display. If you want to spawn the apisto , the more you don't see them the better.

Maybe somebody might not think that way.
    Cheers!

    HI Bro,

Thanks for the advice. There is actually 2 small cave like hiding between the plant but will try create more. Have actually been thinking of doing so but cannot decide whether to add DW or DW with plant or pot type hideout. Which one is better?

yup, agree that more covers should be added. Maybe a plain DW will look better in your tank?

    Hi Joe,

    Yup, finally decided to.

    Hi Sheng,

I did think of using ADA soil but decided to use normal type gravel first. I am using Katampan leave to lower the PH as there are a lot of Katampan trees near my house.

    Hi Blueblue,

I have 2 ottos in the tank, is that what you meant by cleaner fish?

I think a ceramic pot will be good, it's cleaner surface will allow the female to clean it with less effort rather than DW which they'll have to really clean it well.

So a pot will be a good idea!
    Cheers!

Hi Sheng, yes, you have very sharp eye. Got it from C328.

If I succesfully breed this pair, I will move on to Aga. Wish me luck.

Would like to share with all, the pictures that I have just taken.
Just managed to take 2 pictures of the male. Not able to take a picture of the female as it is always hiding among the plant.

Hiding among the plant? hmm, maybe some spawning activities going on in there?

Not too sure, the male is chasing after the female more often. Hopefully this is the start of the more exciting part.

Hi taygu: Yes, i think the otto you mentioned is a kind of dwarf catfish "Otocinslus sp." that i wanted to say. Having two should be enough

well, when the male is chasing the female, it mean there isnt any spawing

It show the female have spwan, when the female is chasing away the male by "slapping" her tail at the male & she keep returning to the same spot, sort of guarding the "cave". It mean she have spawn.

My 2nd pair of apisto tri is behaving this way now

My male apisto tri at my avatar is also from C328

keep a lookout for the female colouration. Once it is turning yellow, it is time for breeding.

Have noticed that the male is doing more of a dance than chasing the female. The colouration for the female is still not yellowish yet. I am keeping a lookout and will update once there is any progress...
