    hi
I have a 3 foot tank that holds aproximately 250ltrs of water in this there are at present 9 in habitants
    4 red forrest jewels
    3 clown loaches
    2 yoyo loaches

    my problem is
I brought all 4 red forrest jewels from the same shop but purchased them a week apart. Up untill today all seemed fine, allthough the last to jewels I got have not returned to anything like the colouration they had in the lfs. The first two purchased are now red but brighter red than when purchased.
Today when feeding the fish I noticed one (the smallest dullest ) was not eating and appeared to be in distress. After watching closely for 30minutes he/she started "coughing" then what appeared to be a large red ballon shot out of its mouth to be sucked back in?
I have since quarrantined the fish in the hospital tank and it's gills seem to be swollen it is very lethargic and pale. I have now noticed that the other jewel I brought at the same time has been pounded on by its tank mates I have no idea why this has happened. I did a ph test water is clean clear aeration and filtration are fine.
No idea why fish is ill does any one have any ideas is sick fish possibly suffering internal inguries due to aggression from other tank mates?
and could the brilliant red colouring of the bullies be due to spawning?
will my sick fish die is there anything I can do to help medication ect?

what is a red forest jewel?
why I don't do garden hybrids and aquarium strains: natural species is a history of Nature, while hybrids are just the whims of Man.
