    Hi all!

My eheim is connected to the CO2 diffuser (5 balls type). Recently I noticed that the water level within the diffuser only reaches the 2nd ball from the bottom. It also created some noise (water flowing inside).

Is this normal? Or could it be my skimmer is sucking in air causing the low water level inside the diffuser?

p/s. The eheim was brand new and used only for less than 3 months.

Eheim 2028 filters are reliable so good choice and since yours is almost new then it probably is not the filter, something else, a few things come to mind:

    • Try removing your surface skimmer for a while, as your problem might simply be that it is sucking in air, if this resolves the problem the reinstate the skimmer and adjust it so that it doesn’t have the ability to suck so much water/air in. if removing it is too difficult, adjust it so it doesn’t take water from the top.

    • Is your set up Tank[surface skimmer] => Filter => CO2 Reactor => Tank? It is best to have the CO2 Reactor after the filter so that CO2 does not build up inside 2028 filter.

    • Have a look at how many bubbles per second of CO2 you are pumping into the reactor it might be excessive?

    hope this helps?

rock your filter a couple of times. this should dislodge any bubbles trapped in your filter. check the inlet of the surface skimmer and see if there is vortex that is drawing air into your filter.

does the water level in the reactor rise during light off period? or does it stay around that level all the time?
and you need not use all 5 balls in your co2 reactor.

hi all, the noise problem gone liao. tks for all the advice shared!

i trimmed my plants today. retied the riccia to DW, do WC and scrapped the unsightly algae using cotton...and check out the skimmer. found out that the issue was wif the skimmer sucking air into filter. adjusted the skimmer and now all soon soon liao, no more noise!

damn tired now but a happy man! hehe...
