Eheim 2028 filters are reliable so good choice and since yours is almost new then it probably is not the filter, something else, a few things come to mind:
- Try removing your surface skimmer for a while, as your problem might simply be that it is sucking in air, if this resolves the problem the reinstate the skimmer and adjust it so that it doesn’t have the ability to suck so much water/air in. if removing it is too difficult, adjust it so it doesn’t take water from the top.
- Is your set up Tank[surface skimmer] => Filter => CO2 Reactor => Tank? It is best to have the CO2 Reactor after the filter so that CO2 does not build up inside 2028 filter.
- Have a look at how many bubbles per second of CO2 you are pumping into the reactor it might be excessive?
