What to do with my fish tank?

Hello, I've got to make room for my bicycle where the fish tanks are sitting now.

This 2 tiers fish tank were given to me by the neighbour after the Luohan craze. I've been using the tank for planting since.

It receives good sunlight from the side window at its current position.

Now, I've got a problem!
I've just gotten a bicycle, and I need a space as close to the door as possible so that I won't dirty the parents' flat too much when I wheel the bike back into the flat. This new addition will cause them too much stress already I know.

Should I just leave the fish tank as it is? or Tear down the 5months set up ( ) and give it up totally?
I've got another 3 smaller tanks (2 x1 feet cubes and 1x 1.5cube) in my bedroom.

Or is it time to replace the 3feet tank when I save more?

Why not just hang up on the wall or just park outside with chain and lock.

There is no way I'm going to hang it on the wall. No more space in my room.

Even my cheapo slippers get stolen here when I leave them outside the flat.

Dont tear it down, although i know keeping a bicycle indoors is really a hassle.

I have my bicycle near my door and i too cant open the door fully, but i have i make the best of it, as i do not want my precious bicycle outside.

Having a vertical bicycle rack (had one of that b4, like in bicycle shops), does save floor space but the area around it have to clear, and its quite a stunt to get the bicycle in and out of the rack, plus ya need to drill deep hole for the mounting, as it needs to be really sturdy.

Hope u find an alternative to both your hobbies!

Your plants dont have to receives good sunlight from the side window at its current position, it still can survive. Ever think of shifting your tanks?

Dad likes my planted 3footer now, so no tearing it down. I think the parents got used to it by now.

Kemp, I have 2x 1feet cube, and a 1.5feet cube besides that 2x3feet tanks (today). I tore down my other 2feet tank already. It was getting too much on the bills.

Not too sure how much they cost, but i once had/used a wheel grip wall-mounted one. Its not easy to lift the whole bicycle up and get it in, esp if your bicycle is not weight friendly. But having it vertically on the wall, is quite cool to look at, but need to wash out tyres if mudding, so ya wont dirty the wall.

You either dirty the wall, dirty the floor, or shift tanks..

personally i'll shift tanks cos thats a one time work issue... just have to do it once then next time no need to work so much.

Then i would go with dirtying the floor.. cos floor easy to clean.. and can be done so quickly.

lastly i would dirty the wall..cos wall hard to clean.. and very visible if i get lazy.. then parents will nag...so EVERY single time i come home have to clean tires... very sian..

Get/borrow a couple of big clean pails that in total, will hold as much as 75% or more of the water from the tank(s).

Drain the water out to the pails.

Get a few strong guys from AQ to help you move the tank. You can probably borrow the pails from them too.

Put the water back.

You said 2 tiers? You are using both tiers or only one tank is on the rack? Each tank with water at 25% + gravel, etc. shoudn't be more then 80kg.

Worse case basis, get some bricks and a wooden board, create a temp rack (cause if you put it on the floor, it's harder to pick up later). Move the lower tank there. Shift the rack plus other tank. Then move the lower tank back into the rack.

Anyway, if you take the opportunity to do a water change, you don't need to keep so much old tank water. Say you usually change 50%. Then drain 50% of the tank(s) to the drain, and drain 40% to the pails, leaving 10% in the tank for the fishes and plants during the shift. Much lighter for your knights in shining armour.

I'll leave the 3 footer and bring the bike into my bedroom.
It will be an eyesore to others if I am going to park it where the tank is situated.

I just cleared some space in my room to make room for it.

Yes, just take out as much water as possible & the fishes. Leave the gravel, plants, wood etc in the tanks. shift the tanks together with the rack

What you need most is "manpower"

Ranma, if this is my house, can have manpower. I am not superwoman. But it's parents'.

Believe it or not, I usually wait for the brother in law or brother to be around before I do some major 'tank maintainence' and the chances are I get to see them once a month :O. They would lend a hand to carry the tanks.

I just asked the flat owner and he said 'NO, don't move the tank.' So its is out of the question now.

Final decision, moved the 1.5ft shrimp tank in my room .
no wall mounted racks since dirtying the bedroom wall is the last thing I want.
