My moss wall seemed to be growing more densely for the upper half..
probably because there's more light there...
I attempted to set up a 2' x 2' Taiwan moss wall, using the stainless steel mesh and those green plastic netting sold at hardward store. The moss were evenly spread over the mesh. But after 3 months, the moss were growing densely in the top half of the wall. The bottom half has small pockets of moss growing. What cause this? My tank is a 4 footer, lit for 9 hours using 4 x 54w T5s. Temp is around 28 to 29. Tks.

Erm...last time i before i mount the wall on the back, i kinda let it slant abit for around 1 mth. so that the bottom area can get some of the light. hope this helps...![]()
What Has Ended Marks A New Begining
Not too sure if this is outrageous or wrong. As the light come from the top, and im guessing your moss wall is removable. Once growth on the upper level is enough, why not just switch the wall around? That way the moss on the bottom end gets the chance to grow.Originally Posted by ehlim
Forgive me if im wrong, just a stab at an idea.
what type of filter are you using?
maybe can try slant your moss wall at an angle, to have adequate lightings.Originally Posted by ehlim
I am using a 2028. The moss wall is half the tank size and is placed nearer to the intake.Originally Posted by kemp
Tks all for their advice. If the lighting is the cause, then I would try to invert the wall. Cheers.
maybe you positioned your lamp directly above the moss wall?
The T5s are placed in the centre of the 2' wide tank. Should I place the lights nearer to the moss wall? Is so, wouldn't that somewhat introduce more heat to the moss? Cheers.Originally Posted by richietay
thought you have lighting positioned directly above, coz i have one portion on my moss wall experienced irregular growth also. in that case, try trim off the top half of moss.
personally still feels christmas moss the best option for moss wall![]()
