Can Use Algae To Generate CO2??

Did anyone try to use algae to generate CO2 before?
Basically algae need photosynthesis and respiration cycle too.
So put big amount of algae in a bottle and control the photosynthesis and respiration cycle reverse to the planted tank. In this case the algae bottle should power the CO2 requirement of the planted tank, Right??
Any suggestion ??

I am not sure how you gonna do it. During light phase, both algae and plants consume CO2. Unless you are reversing the light/dark for algae and plants.

You gonna need a lot more algae mass than plant mass to generate enough CO2 for the plants. Therefore, to feed CO2 to a 2-ft tank of plants, you probably need a 3-ft tank full of algae.

I don't get it.. how? the algae tank and plants tank share the same water but with opposite lighting cycles?

so what's going to stop the algae spores from getting into the main tank?
this is a classic case of false economy.
you're probably going to spend more time and effort ($$ too) later on to remove the algae from main tank....

No idea how to stop the algae spores!!! Good question!!!
A "U" shape tube?? Maybe wet filter?? A buble counter fill with water???
Any Bio-Scientist can answer this question???

A tank full of algae. Meaning every particle of space in the tank has to be algae, not just simply on the tank walls.

Interesting suggestion though, but it's not practical and viable imho. I'd gladly pay for a CO2 tank setup or go through DIY.

hmm... fatboy, maybe u might want to try two equally planted tanks sharing the same water, but with exactly opposite lighting cycles instead... then tell us if it works imo, i don't think it would work well though...

For me i would rather go for diy CO2 instead, or invest in a CO2 tank

Hmm, maybe the use of a UV reactor might stop the spread of algae. Another filter to remove the spore after the UV reactor perhaps? But I have a question in mind. Will it be cheaper, presentable, simple to operate with minimum hassle than actually getting a pressurised co2 set? Think about it.
